AC did a song titled "Too Many Dirty Dishes," on his Cold Snap
album. Not sure if he wrote it though--the CD I have doesn't
give specific credits.

What about "I ain't drunk"? I'd call that a pretty darn good novelty
song. I think I like Mastercharge better, though, because my band does
a really funky version of it.

I know Ms. Collins wrote "Mastercard [or Mastercharge];" it sounds like
she may have written "Too Many Dirty Dishes" too.

Dirty Dishes is on Collin's Cold Snap album -- something that has rarely
left my cd player in the past few weeks. The more I listen, the more I
love it. Unfortunately, I'm at work and I can't tell you if Collins
wrote the tune.

Albert Collins is someone that I don't see discussed much on the list but
personally happen to miss terribly. What do you all think of him?

And while on the subject: I was watching a reasonably bad Rebecca
DeMornay/Mary Gross movie the other day on Fox called "Feds". In the
scene where they're drinking in a bar (of course) Albert Collins is on
the jukebox.

My Albert Collins anecdote...

There was a double bill in Pittsburgh while I was in grad school --
Johnny Copeland and Albert Collins. Unfortunately, the show was the
night before our Distributed Systems midterm, one of about 3 grades
that would determine our grade. After much debate, a grad school buddy
and I decided we were going, hell with the midterm. During the show,
during Albert's audience walk, he went up one of these little balcony
things in the club, about 10 yards across from me. By now, I was out
of my chair whooping and hollering and cheering him on. He looks right
at me, waves, and shouts, "How y'all doin?" which made me whoop and holler
and cheer that much louder. This was in March. That following November,
I heard he passed away. I still don't really believe I'm not going to
see that capo'ed blonde Tele again.

I managed to do well on the midterm anyway =8^). Moral: catch that
live music when you can, 'cuz you never know.

As a related side note -- happy birthday to Debbie Davies, rhythm
player to AC for a few years running. If you've got all Albert's albums
and find you need an extra AC fix, check out her album _Picture This_
on Blind Pig (BPCD 5004) -- AC guest picks on one track.

And if you need some more nice music that celebrates AC - try to get your
hands on "Hand Made" by Ole Frimer. He s a singer/guitarist from Denmark. I
had seen his name but never heard him before we met at the Notodden
=46estival in Norway. His album is realy very good with mostly originals. He
plays a beutiful guitar in the AC-style with som of his own twists. But
what realy striked me was his singing, you don t hear many singers that is
influensed by AC, do you? Well Ole is and his phrasing is very close to
AC:s, It gave me some new light on the finesse in AC:s singing, the part of
his art that he had least confidence in. But he realy had a personal and
great singing style, if not the most powerfull sets of pipes.

I do a blues show Sundays on KGON in Portland, Or. I'm always looking for
new and exciting product. Portland does the Waterfront Blues festival
July 4th week every year, so you know Blues is big in Portland. Mail your

Bob, we listen to your show whenever my boyfriend doesn't have a gig, or
a blues jam he wants to attend, and we enjoy it very much. It's
unfortunate that there aren't more shows like yours on the air, more often.

I just read in the paper that Bojangle's is moving further South to
reckon with a raise in rent. I was just curious how you think this will
affect the blues scene in Portland. Will Cascade Blues Association move
their meetings back to the old Pine Street. Will the larger out of town
acts play smaller clubs like Trail's End, M & M, etc.?

Albert was so cool, he used to drive his own bus. I saw him at the Blue
Note in Columbia, Missouri about 10 different times. I have a Gibson 335
Dot, and his signature was the first one I ever got on it. (Followed by
Buddy Guy, WC Clark, Tab Benoit, etc.) I miss him too. Unfortunately, I
blew the stereo out last week, so I miss all of the music. You might say
"I got the blues for blues." Sounds like a good start to a song...

Gettin' busy.

I concur about missing the Ice Man. When I heard about his demise, I got to
drinking, but I wasn't drunk. I never got a chance to meet him, but he is still
alive when I put on one of his disks and crank up "If Trouble Was Money" or
"Jealous Man" or "I Ain't Drunk", or of course, "Two Many Dirty Dishes".
I keep hoping that someone will come up with 4 or 5 disks of new stuff that he
never got around to releasing.
