I see on AMG Allmusic that Lurrie Bell has an Isabel release
called "Cuttin' Heads" supposedly released in 2004.

All the Isabel I know of was vinyl released a couple decades ago. Real
good stuff. Anyway I see that the price is like $47 which is kinda steep.

Does anybody know anything about the Lurrie Bell release? Is it good? Is
it worth $47? Also is somebody re-releasing all the old Isabel stuff,
like "Somebody Stole My Christmas" by Lefty Diz?

Regards

The "Cuttin Heads" I have is on the Vypyr label and has a release date of
2000 on it. I think that is his label. You can probably find it somewhere
else at the normal price.

This is the long-lost Vypyr CD reissued. To me, this is the best thing
Lurrie has recorded. Sadly, it was produced by a guy with little money
and no distribution and was nearly impossible to find even during the
time it was available. I remember reading enthusiastic reviews and then
looking everywhere for a copy. I think the Vypyr version came out 3-4
years ago. In an interview I did with Bob Koester a few years ago, he
mentioned that he wanted to record Lurrie again but Vypyr had an
exclusive contract for recording which made it impossible for him to
record for another label. I highly recommend this disc but $47 is kind
of steep. Most likely, Isabel has no distribution rights in the US so
it may be hard to find here even if it is still available.

I just bought a copy on www.amazon.co.uk for $18.50 - it seems to have immediate availability.

Best wishes, Iain

BTW I will be backing Lurrie and Carey Bell next Friady and Saturday in Los
Angeles and Santa Barbara. Should be a good one. I'll buy some extra copies
if he brings any Cuttin Heads. Though that is highly unlikely.

I saw Lurrie last night at Rosa's. His people were selling the disc
for $30 ("That label is hard to come by."). I had handed over the
cash when I realized it was Cuttin' Heads, which I already own on
Vypyr - the cover art has changed.

It is an excellent record.

Lurrie was in good form, by the way.

I was there, too. Lurrie was in great form, indeed. I was able to stay only for his first set. It was nice to hang for a while with him and Susan Greenberg.

Lurrie's heading west this week -- I know of one show he's doing with his dad for the Santa Barbara Blues Society, with our own Cadillac Zack putting together the backing band. Should be a great show!

Ya'll in California check out www.sbbs.org fo details, and go see Lurrie if you can.
