2nd INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL AT
THE UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA
SLOVENIA
8th - 14th August 1994
under the patronage of
Ministry of Science and Technology
of Republic of Slovenia
and
general sponsorship of
IBM Slovenia
Dear Colleague,
Our work on 1st International Summer School was crowned with
the prestigious charter and the golden tablet of the University
of Ljubljana (beginning of citation) ... for the exceptional
achievements in organising the International Summer School
"Let's Face Chaos through Nonlinear Dynamics"...
(end of citation from the charter) and with numerous positive
facts (there where 86 participants from 20 countries including
tenured professors), and many stimulating responses.
As we have planned from the very beginning, we wish the Summer
School to become traditional. Here we are, doing the task again
and even better!
Maybe you are wondering:
"WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?"
Well, if you are undergraduate or graduate student, the
knowledge you can acquire by participating at our Summer
School is useful in almost any field in which you are
majoring.
In addition, facing chaos through nonlinear dynamics is
not as distant from our senses as are the other two
scientific revolutions of the twentieth century - the
theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. As
you will learn if you join us, all you need is pencil
and paper or computer and of course knowledge. The
latter will surely be enriched: for this very
purpose, experts from all around the world have
been invited to lecture to us.
If you are already working in this field this Summer
School might be an opportunity for you to present your
work in a seminar or in a workshop in a Student Afternoon.
If you decide to do so please send us the material you
would like to present (max. 20 min.), your C.V. and
bibliography until 24th June 1994. A committee will
select 5 most outstanding works. Those will be presented
and awarded. All the materials lectured at the Summer
School and presented in the workshops will be published in
the book that will be available within ten months after
the end of the Summer School.
"ANY SOCIAL EVENTS?"
In Ljubljana, where the lectures will take place, we
prepared many social events such as International
Party (you will have a chance to present your country
and its traditional food, customs, songs...), Official
Dinner with traditional Slovenian food, sightseeing tour
through Ljubljana, concert evening at the 42nd Ljubljana
Festival, afternoon trip to the Postojna Cave and recital.
For those, who would like to know more about Slovenia,
we offer a Post Summer School Tour (two days, from 15th-16th
August) to the wine region of Slovenian Styria, where
attractive countryside, old towns, good food, tasty wines
and friendly people can be enjoyed.
"PARTICIPATION FEE?"
Participation fee - 480 DEM - includes lectures, accommodation
and meals, international party, official dinner, concert
evening and is payable upon your arrival in Ljubljana.
The Post Summer School Tour fee will be known by 10th
July 1994.
