Someone asked a few days ago where Larry Sledge was now. The last I heard,
he still lived in the Nixa, Mo., area and was playing mandolin with his
cousin Butch (guitar, banjo) in The Horse Creek Band, which I think is
still performing at the evening show at Silver Dollar City in Branson.
He's a great Monroe style mandolin player. Every note sparkles and dances.
He also worked quite a bit with Grandpa Jones in recent years and can play
clawhammer banjo pretty well. Another really great mandolin player in the
Springfield, Mo., area is David Wilson, who plays with the group Radio
Flyer. (Also an amazing fiddler, guitar player, singer, songwriter - the
kind of musician that either inspires you to go home and practice, or just
go home and burn all your instruments...) Radio Flyer has some recordings
on the Turquoise label; I think their on their own label now. Don't miss
the chance to hear them if you ever get a chance. (Dudley Murphy -guitar,
Steve Duede-bass, formerly Roger Matthews & then Ned Luberecki on banjo -
not sure who now).

PS: Kathy, Randy, hang in there. We're praying for you in Owensboro.
