Years ago I heard a rumor that Bob Siggins, banjoman with
Joe Val et al & the then Charles River Valley Boys, had
gotten an MD and gone to work as an experimental doc for
UCSD. Supposedly he was playing pedal steel experimentally
although nobody I know has ever heard him..or been able
to confirm or deny the rumor..he appears to have dropped
from view. Anybody know anything about what he's up to
lately...

What kind of mad pedal steel experiments are they doing up there at UCSD?
But seriously, the phone book lists a G. Robert Siggins in Del Mar, which is
near the UCSD campus. If this is the same Bob Siggins, I wish he would come
around -- there is a serious shortage of good banjo players in the area!
Hmmm, maybe I'll send this guy a bluegrass club newsletter...

That's a good idea..hope it breaks him out..let us
know if he is in fact around and what he's been up to..
Thanks--
Tom
Actually, it was a Ph.D., in Biochemistry as I recall, and the last I heard
he was doing research at the Salk Institute which I believe is in the San
Diego area. I last saw him about 15 years ago and he said at the time that
he'd pretty much given up playing the banjo. I hope that he reconsidered;
he was always one of my favorite banjo players, very syncopated and
hard-driving, but with an old-time feel sorta like Ralph Stanley.
