Good news!
French prime minister Lionel Jospin's office said yesterday that France will
sign the European charter on regional and minority languages. This brings a
little hope for Euskera and other minority languages to be taught in schools
(with more government FFsupportFF) and used in official documents, the media
and economic, cultural and social activities. The charter was agreed in 1992
by the Council of Europe. I hope too that substantial and more efficient
government help comes to rural Iparralde to alleviate the economic crisis
that have caused so many young (euskaldun) people to leave Euskal Herria.
