Kaixo guztioi,

Izerditan blai eta etzi nire ezken azterketa dudalarik, hona hemen gaurko
esaerak (hau bai beroa hemen ari duena!):

1)

GOIZEKO LAINO GORRI, GAUEKO ITURRI

Goizean zeruan hodei gorriak agertzen badira, gauean euria egingo du.
Konproba ezazu esaera hau egia ala gezurra den.

==============================================================================

RED FOG IN THE MORNING, RAIN AT NIGHT

If there are red clouds in the sky in the morning, it will rain at night.
Try this saying and see if it is right or wrong.

2)

NAGUSI ASKOREN ASTOA GOSEAK HIL

Hamar laguneko talde batek bizikleta bat erostea erabaki zuen. Baita
erosi ere denen artean. zer gertatu zen gero? Batek frenuak puskatu
zizkion eta bizikleta denena zenez, ez ez zituen inork konpondu. Beste
batek bazterra jo zuen eta aurreko gurpila okerturik utzi. Eta horrela,
azkenerako, bizikletaren itxurarik gabe utzi zuten.

Handik pixka batera, zakur bat erosi zuten denen artean eta etxola bat
egin zioten. Haseran, txandaka ematen zioten jana baina, gero, bati
tokatzen zitzaiola eta besteari ahaztu egin zitzaiola, azkenean, zakur
gizarajoa beste mundura joan zen hemen janik ematen ez ziotelako.

Begira zer dioen esaera zahar honek:

NAGUSI ASKOREN ASTOA GOSEAK HIL

==============================================================================

MANY OWNERS' DONKEY DIES OF HUNGER

A group of ten people decided to buy a bicycle. What happenned when they
bought it? One broke the bike's brakes and, since the bike belonged to
everybody, nobody fixed them. Another person crashed the bike and twisted
the front wheel. In the end, the bike looked like anything but a bike.

Shortly afterwards, they bought a dog and they made a house for it. In
the beginning, they took turns to feed the dog but, later, someone would
forget to feed it and so on, un til the poor dog finally died because its
owners did not feed it.

Look at what this old saying says:

MANY OWNERS' DONKEY DIES OF HUNGER

3)

EGONAI (egon hadi) LO ETA JANGO DEK ME!

Zenbait lekutan, espabilatzen ez dena ezer gabe gelditzen da.

Adibidez:

Jokinen urtebetetzeak dira. Jokinen etxean hamar haur daude mahai baten
biran. Erdian pastel handi bat. "Hasi jaten" esan die Jokinen amak.

Han ari dira denak jan eta jan. Baina Martxel ipuin bat irakurtzen ari
da. Pastel mutur bat besterik ez da gelditzen eta Martxel oraindik ipuina
irakurtzen. Jokinen amak, mugitzeko, bestela ezer gabe geldituko dela
esaten dio Martxeli esaera honen bidez:

EGONAI LO ETA JANGO DEK ME!

==============================================================================

BE ASLEEP AND YOU'LL EAT NOTHING!

In some places, that who doesn't move is left with nothing.

For example:

It's jokin's bithday. There are ten children at Jokin's house sitting
around a table. There is a big cake in the middle. "Start eating" Jokin's
mother tells them.

They are all eating a lot. But martxel is reading a story. There's only a
smal piece of cake left and Martxel is still reading the story. Jokin's
mother tells him to hurry, or else he won't get cake, by means of this
old saying:

BE ASLEEP AND YOU'LL EAT NOTHING!

4)

OTSOAK ERE EZ DU BERE HARAGIRIK JATEN

Inor ez da bere buruaren etsai; alegia, inork ez dio bere buruari
harririk botatzen. Lagunek, sendikoek, herritarrek, ijitoek etab. ere
elkar defendatu ohi dute.

==============================================================================

NOT EVEN THE WOLF EATS ITS OWN MEAT

Nobody is their own enemy; that is, nobody throws stones at themselves.
Friends, relatives, towns(wo)men, gipsies etc. usually also defend each
other.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

5)

ESKUKO BEHATZAK ERE
EZ ZITUEN JAINKOAK BERDINAK EGIN

Mundu honetan denok, bata bestearengandik desberdinak gara. Pentsakera
eta eritziak ere milaka daude. Desberdintasun hau adibide fisiko baten
bidez adierazpen baten bidez adierzten digu esaera honek.

==============================================================================

NOT EVEN OUR FINGERS
WERE MADE THE SAME BY GOD

We are all different from each other in this world. There are also
thousands of different ways of thinking and opnions. This saying
expresses this with a physical example.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

6)

GAIZKI ESANAK BARKATU
ETA ONDO ESANAK ONDO HARTU

Berriketan egon ondoren, agurtzerakoan, esan ohi da hau. Bertsolariek ere
askotan esaten dute azken agurra kantatzerakoan.

==============================================================================

FORGIVE THE "WRONGLY SAID" (lit.)
AND "TAKE WELL" (lit., meaning "accept") THE "RIGHTLY SAID"

It is said after having had a conversation, when leaving. "Bertsolaris"
also use this a lot when they sing their last goodbye.

==============================================================================

Esaera hauekin egin beharko litzatekeena, berriz, honako hau da..
"gaizki esanak zuzendu, eta ondo esanak ikasi eta erabili" :-))

Hurrengorarte,

Unai

This saying has proved true to me several times (unless in the Basque
Country, perhaps it doesnt work out there in Nevada...). There is another
basque popular atmospheric prediction that says that if the sky turns red in
the evening, it means the opposite: "Tomorrow, sun". Yesterday evening it
was so in Donostia (red sky, called Oskorri in basque), and today we have a
merciless sunny and hot day... I dont know any particular old saying for the
evening red-sky version, but there are other similar sayings for the morning
version that the Subcommander mentions. One of the most popular is this:

GOIZ GORRI, ARRATS EURI

Which means: RED MORNING, EVENING RAIN
And I recall also the home-version that my mom used:

GOIZ GORRIXA, ILUNTZEKO ITTURRIXA

Translation: RED MORNING, FOUNTAIN OF THE SUNSET.
