3633 LIBRARIAN II - ASIAN ARTS
Under general administrative direction, the Librarian II - Asian Arts,
performs advanced professional librarian work in the overall administration
of the library at the Asian Art Museum. The essential functions of this
class include the selection, acquisition, cataloging and classification of
books, periodicals, microfilms and other library materials relating to
Asian art; the performance of reference and bibliographical research work
on Asian Art for staff, museum patrons, docents, outside groups and others;
the preparation and maintenance of records, files and reports relative to
library activities; and the review and establishment of library procedures,
systems and programs. The annual salary range is $44,318 - $53,844. A
permanent full-time vacancy currently exists at the Asian Art Museum.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Baccalaureate Degree from a library school accredited by the American

All applicants must submit to the address above by APRIL 29, 1994 a
photocopy of a transcript or diploma evidencing the education required in
Minimum qualification #1 (and #3 if applicable). A waiver of this
verification may be granted in unusual circumstance where it is impossible
to obtain. The applicant MUST submit a letter by APRIL 29, 1994 explaining
the reason for the waiver request. Waiver requests will be evaluated on a
case-by-case basis. Verification of the qualifying work experience may be
required at a later date.
SELECTION PROCEDURES: WEIGHT

APPRAISAL OF QUALIFICATIONS: In the event of a large number of
qualified applicants, a screening committee consisting of subject-
matter experts will be convened to evaluate applicants' education and
experience to determine the best qualified candidates. If use of the
screening committee becomes necessary, qualified candidates will be
asked to complete and submit a supplemental questionnaire. The
screening committee will evaluate the regular application and the
supplemental questionnaire in order to select the 10 highest-ranking
candidates. The decision of the screening committee is final and not
subject to appeal. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are
not guaranteed advancement to the oral/performance examination........QUALIFYING
ORAL/PERFORMANCE EXAMINATION: Candidates will be tested to determine
their relative knowledge, ability and skill levels in job-related areas.
These areas may include but are not limited to the following: knowledge
of Asian Art Collections; knowledge of library automation; knowledge of
reference resources; knowledge of functional areas within the library;
ability to manage and conduct reference and research work; oral
communication ability; written communication ability; and ability to
read, write and transliterate Chinese or Japanese...........................100%
