My daughter has a art teacher and art room at the Boston Higashi
school and they have a full art curriculum. It is the most
amazing art room I have ever seen. All the children have art
every day. Call the art teacher at 781-961-0800. The Boston Higashi
school is for autistic children only and is international

There is more than one type of autism. I have a type called Asperger's
Syndrome which is at the higher functioning end of the spectrum. You can

HI there!

Well, all I can say is that my HFA son loves all kinds of art, and does very
well in art classes.

For adapting a classroom, I would suggest making different mediums
available, in case the child cannot cope with the smell/texture of something
(crayons vs. paints vs. pastels). Also, at least in my son's case, I
wouldn't assume an instinctive understanding of either HOW the tools work,
or of when a project is completed. My son has some real issues with defining
completion, which complicate transitions. He needed some guidance on ending
tasks, which really helped him. Of course, in the context of his creating
what is in his imagination!

You can see some of his artwork (all done at home, not in school, though) on
my homepage http://shannon.develop.com/art.htm

Good luck!

Shannon :-)
