MIAMI IN JANUARY FOR HALF THE REGISTRATION FEE

Two crucial changes have been made in the deadline for proposals and
the registration fee for presenters at the University of Miami's
conference January 14-17, "Academic Affairs-Student Affairs: Creating
Synergy for Learning."

The first change is in response to messages from colleagues around
the country who want to submit a proposal but learned of the September
10th deadline only in the past few days when they returned to their
campuses. THE DEADLINE IS EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 30; decisions will be
e-mailed by October 15. The proposals received by September 10 will be
considered only among themselves, and notification of their status
will still be e-mailed by October 1.

The second change is also prompted by concerns from colleagues
interested in presenting papers or panels--prospective speakers
facing restricted travel budgets. THE REGISTRATION FEE WILL BE
DISCOUNTED BY 50% FOR TEAMS ACCEPTED AS PANELS AND BY 40% FOR
INDIVIDUAL PRESENTERS.

For colleagues who, in sorting through mountains of summer mail,
missed the original call for proposals, it is reproduced below.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The conference aims to explore the great variety of bridges that can
be built between academic affairs and student affairs--from
enhancements through learning communities and enrichment through
residential colleges to internships, to honor courts, to
psychological counseling, to linking resources (fiscal and physical
as well as human).

The sessions, each 90 minutes, will include individual presentations
and panels. Preference will be given to panels which, themselves,
comprise colleagues from academic affairs and student affairs (and
perhaps other institutional divisions) working together to achieve
excellence in higher education. But sessions led by single
participants are encouraged as well.

See the conference web site (http://www.miami.edu/iac/ehe) for further
details on the program.

Proposals should include the following: title, participants, equipment
needs, and an abstract limited to 250 words.

Original deadline:
Proposals must be postmarked to School of Continuing Studies,
University of Miami, PO Box 248005, Coral Gables, FL 33124-1610,
or e-mailed to rne...@miami.edu by September 10, 1998. Acceptance
will be e-mailed by October 1, 1998.

Extended deadline:
The deadline for submitting proposals is extended to September 30,
1998; decisions will be e-mailed by October 15. Proposals received
by September 10 will be considered only among themselves, and
notification of their status will still be e-mailed by October 1.
