Well as usual lately I'm behind and have little time to be
here amongst the porch farts. Just wanted to throw these
comments across the old pot bellied stove, late as they may be:

The Rev. asks about Kirschner's Rock Concert:

>
> Was Don Kirschner's concert in any way connected to the Soundstage
> concerts? Remember them? There were a couple of the latter I'd
> dearly love to have on tape, especially Leon Russell.
> -----

I'm afraid not. Kirschner originally produced the ABC series
"In Concert" which aired every other Friday and featured one or
two bands live and was simulcast in stereo. They were complete
concerts by folks like the Allman Bros & Steve Miller, to name
a couple. ABC turned the
series over to Dick Clark and the series was never the same.
Clark ended the simulcast and turned it more top 40. Asked if
rock music could be presented properly through a 3" TV speaker
Clark answered that many records had been sold after being
heard on 3" and smaller transister radio speakers showing his
utter contempt for the music and his true desire that the show
be merely a marketing vehicle. Clark cannot be mentioned, much
less show me video outtakes with Ed McMahon, without sending
me into a tirade...... This asshole..... AAAARGHHHH......
Why'd you remind me of Dick Clark?........ AAAAARGH!!!
We should burn his toupe on his front lawn on a cross!!!

Shortly after, Kirschner reappeared in syndication.
Unfortunately his new show was not even a shell of the
original "In Concert". "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" was a
jumble of what I then called "promo clips" which was my first
exposure to what we now know as "videos". Occasionally there
would be a truncated bit of a live concert. Seems he decided
that Clark had the winning formula. This poor shell of a show
is what VH1 is showing. On the bright side, I'm sure Armando
will enjoy the classic footage of such greats as KC & The
Sunshine Band.

If you ever find video of the original "In Concert" series
please let me know. Too bad it was before the advent of the
household VCR.

John Nolt <ecl...@NEWS-SERVER.AMERICAN.EDU> ccomplains
about one of the UnWasHeD favorites Edie Brickell comparing
her with The Cranberries:

Delores of the Cranberries seems to me like Sinead for the
masses. Iwas going to say like a "Likeable Sinead" but then I
remembered her comments regarding Hendrix back around
Woodstock 94. Hey, ya just don't go shitting on my gods like
that!

As for Edie, aside from her taste in men (she coulda had me),
I've liked most everything she's ever done. And any girl that
can get into the positions she did in the "What I Am" video is
OK with me. ;-) Maria's chops she doesn't have.... but who
does? (ob Maria gush)

At the risk of being in bad taste, has anyone noticed that CNN
has been running Eric Clapton's syrupy ballad every time they
show scenes of the Oklahoma bombing? Just what we needed ....
to hear that damned song some more!!

Mr McCown tells us of Mr Martin Mull:

> It's on the LP "Martin Mull and his Fabulous Furniture in your
> Living Room", and it also contains such Mull classics as "Licks Off
> Of Records", "2001 Polka", "Dueling Tubas" and "How Could I Not
> Miss (A Girl Your Size)?". It's so funny you'd never suspect he
> would wind up shilling for Red Roof Inn.

A friend of mine was always being told he looked like Mull.
One evening he found himself sitting next to the man himself
at a local restaurant. When he asked for an autograph, Mull
pulled out his checkbook and wrote my friend a check for a
dollar.

"Let's get norrmal...
Don't have to be so formal..
Let's get normal for a change..."

I'm surprised I seem to be the first to compare the Cranberries
vocalist to Harriet Wheeler of The Sundays...

Then again, I like Harriet better... even though her mouth is nowhere
as large as Edie's, nor her legs as flexible.
