Tirana, 23rd March: Albanian President Sali Berisha has addressed a message
to the Socialist Party PS Congress.
"The first phase of your congress avails me of the occasion to express my
deep respect and best wishes for the PS members and sympathizers as well as my
appreciation for their contribution to the development and consolidation of the
political pluralism in general and reforms in Albania, " says Berisha in his
message.
"I also want to assure them that I have unshakably respected my opponents and
their opposition and under the motto Opponents but brothers', I have considered
vital the role of the opposition for a democratic society.
"Proceeding precisely from this respect, I wish to express in this message my
conviction that the future of the Socialist Party and the Albanian Left as a
whole and its integration into Europe makes indispensable:
"- the denunciation through a special resolution of all crimes and genocide
Enver Hoxha Albania's former communist dictator and the Albanian Workers'Party
former ruling communist party - in June 1991 it became the Socialist Party of
Albania have committed during the 50 years of communist dictatorship in
Albania, the rehabilitation of all victims of the barbarous regime and the
re-evaluation by PS of all Albanian-left figures who with their resistance
against dictatorship respected Albanian social democratic and European ideals .
"- the dismissal from the PS leadership of all elements that have led the
Albanian secret police, of those involved in the February and 2nd April 1991
massacre and of all those who, according to documents, have undertaken to commit
state crimes;
"- the removal of Marx from the programme and his denunciation not only for
his offence against the Albanian nation but also for the fact that the mechanism
of the most ugly totalitarian dictatorships the humankind has ever known is
based on his dogma of destroying the private property'. This dogma, more than
all gulags and wars of this century, is the cause of hunger and death of
millions of innocent people in Albania and in the whole territory extending
from the Corfu channel to the Bering Strait.
"Expressing my conviction that without these conditions one cannot speak of
PS's renovation, I want to remind those who may misunderstand my message of Mark
Twain who wrote: Never tell the truth to those who do not deserve it', whereas I
do not consider my opponents like these.
"Once again I wish you successes in the first phase of your c "Once again I

concludes Berisha in his message.
