Specialization in Learning Assessment, Curriculum Alignment,
and Systems Performance

The Department of Educational Leadership, Technology, and
Administration (DELTA) invites applications for a tenure-
track position in this specialty area with the rank of
Assistant/Associate Professor. This position is designed to
complement existing faculty expertise and programs within the
department and college. A doctoral degree is required. The
person would need to be an expert on standards-based
assessment who can support DELTA's new specialization in
Learning Assessment and System Performance as well as teacher
licensure, administrator licensure, and graduate degree
programs (both the middle and secondary teacher education
program and the administrative licensure programs).

Position to begin September 1999.

Seeking applicants with background in curriculum within a
standards-based framework, curriculum/instruction/assessment
alignment, instructional psychology, school improvement,
learning systems technology, or measurement of learning.
Earned doctorate with expertise and experience in middle-
secondary curriculum with emphasis on learning and standards,
educational leadership, or instructional psychology.

The person's research and scholarship would focus on
secondary school programs, reporting on outcomes of effective
practices and high performance systems in the following
areas.
1. Research and development to improve the content standards
and measurement tools for assessing students' achievement of
the standards.
2. Strategies to help schools implement standards-based
systems efficiently and effectively, providing methods that
schools can use to improve students' pass rates on these
high-stakes assessment assessments.
3. Policy development, implementation, and evaluation of
effectiveness within state and local accountability systems
for driving educational reform.

Other qualifications include the following.
1. Experience collaborating with systems (at the building,
district, or state level) related to school improvement
initiatives and staff/continuing professional development.
Either teaching or administrative experience in K-12 is
highly desired.
2. Expertise in measurement, assessment, and research
methodology and design appropriate to inquiry associated with
student learning and system performance.
3. History of grant application and management from state and
federal sources on projects designed to achieve educational
reform in teaching and learning.

Responsibilities include research, teaching graduate level
courses, and serving on department committees.
1. Teach and actively collaborate in middle/secondary teacher
education program.
2. Conduct research that will advance the collection,
interpretation, design and implementation of school based
actions to improve student learning and system performance.
3. Situate and integrate teaching and research to support
school and state educational reforms with the College of
Education and its partners. Lead, develop and implement
field-based partnership components and relationships of the
learning assessment and system performance specialization.
4. Collaborate with faculty and school partners to obtain
external research funds and, demonstration and training funds
from state and federal agencies as well as private
foundations.
5. Mentor and advise students within degree, specialization,
and certification programs, as well as contribute to
departmental and across-college program development
initiatives.

Submit letter of application, current curriculum vita,
transcripts, reprints of two or three recent referred
publications, and three current letters of recommendation
that directly apply to applicant's competencies and
potentials in the areas noted above. Letters of application
should include a summary of research interests. Review of
applications will begin on March 15 and continue until the
position is filled.
