The Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL), a
private nonprofit corporation based in Austin, Texas, is
dedicated to challenging, supporting, and enriching
educational systems to ensure a quality education for all
learners. SEDL conducts applied research, evaluation, and
policy studies; develops cutting edge products; and delivers
training and technical assistance to educators and others in
the Southwest. SEDL is seeking candidates for the following
positions.

Position 1: Program Manager, Language and Diversity Program

Position 2: Program Associate (LDP).

Position 3: Program Manager, Evaluation and Policy Studies

Position 4: Program Associate or Specialist in Evaluation

Position 1:

Program Manager, Language and Diversity Program (LDP).
Responsible for conceptualizing, directing, and expanding the
organization's R&D work to improve K-12 educational programs
for linguistically and culturally diverse student
populations. Current work focuses on classroom instruction,
teacher-student cultural differences, the U.S.-Mexico border
region, and community dialogue. This person is responsible
for building an R&D program around these current efforts;
making sure work is completed in a high quality and timely
manner within budget limitations; developing new lines of
work and funding; building and maintaining productive
relationships with relevant organizations; and working as
part of a team with program staff. Applicants should hold a
doctorate with a specialization in language and diversity or
a related field; and have 5 years experience conducting (with
3 years managing) an applied educational R&D project at the
local, intermediate, state, or national level; and work with
K-12 schools.

Position 2:

Program Associate (LDP). Responsible for leading selected
team efforts to conduct applied research and development
activities aimed at improving the educational outcomes for
linguistically and culturally diverse students. This
individual will play a lead role in conceptualizing,
developing, carrying out, and reporting on field-based
research activities in the Southwest region. Applicants
should have a Master's degree, and 7 years experience leading
and conducting an applied educational R&D project at a local,
intermediate, state, or national level; and work with K-12
schools.

Position 3:

Program Manager, Evaluation and Policy Studies. Responsible
for conceptualizing, directing, and expanding the
organization's evaluation and policy work to improve K-12
education. Responsible for the conduct of all of the
organization's internal evaluation efforts, as well as
building and supporting external evaluation capacity.
Responsible for the conduct of current policy efforts,
including R&D work focused on the effects of the study circle
dialogue process on state education policymaking, and field
services that provide information to policymakers.
Responsible for building and supporting the organization's
capacities to conduct policy analysis and research. This
person is responsible for ensuring work is completed in a
high quality and timely manner within budget limitations;
developing new lines of work and funding; building and
maintaining productive relationships with relevant
organizations; and working as part of a team with program
staff. Applicants should hold a doctorate with a
specialization in evaluation, policy, or a related field; and
have 5 years experience conducting (with 3 years managing) an
applied educational or social sciences R&D project at the
local, intermediate, state, or national level; and
background/experience with K-12 schools.

Position 4:

Program Associate or Specialist in Evaluation (OIAE).
Responsible for the evaluation of R&D, technical assistance,
and professional development contracts at SEDL, including
evaluation design; development of instrumentation;
quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and
interpretation; and evaluation reporting. Applicants should
have a Master's degree, and 1 to 7 years experience
conducting educational program evaluations.

Position 5:

Program Associate or Specialist in Home-School-Community
Partnerships (PREP). Responsible for ongoing planning and
development of a network of school, home, and community
partnerships to improve student and family outcomes. Duties
include providing assistance to partnerships; developing,
testing, and refining resource materials; and preparing
written and oral presentations and reports. Applicants should
have a Master's degree, and 1 to 7 years experience working
in schools building partnerships.

Position 6:

Program Associate or Specialist in Rural Home-School-
Community Partnerships (PREP). Responsible for ongoing
planning and development of network of school, home, and
community partnerships in rural areas. Also responsible for
adapting rural community/economic development programs that
can be used by these partnerships. Applicants should have a
Master's degree, and 1 to 7 years experience working in rural
schools building partnerships.

Position 7:

Program Associate in Teaching and Learning (SCIMAST).
Responsible for providing leadership and direction in work to
improve mathematics and science teaching and learning. Work
involves intensive professional development for teachers and
trainers; networking with math, science, and reform leaders;
collecting and analyzing data on effective approaches to
reform; creating resource materials; and hosting state and
regional meetings. Applicants should have a Master's degree
and 7 years experience in related work.

Position 8:

Program Associate in Teaching and Learning (SCIMAST).
Responsible for providing training and assistance, creating
resource materials, and supporting educator networks within
five-state region and nationally to raise quality of teaching
and learning in mathematics and science. Applicants should
have a Master's degree, and 7 years experience designing and
providing professional development for K-12 educators.

Position 9:

Program Associate or Specialist in Teaching and Learning
(SCIMAST). Responsible for maintaining collection of
mathematics and science resource materials, assisting
educators to access and use these materials, and building
linkages with 25 access centers across five-state region.
Applicants should have a Master's degree and 1 to 7 years
experience maintaining and using curriculum resource
materials.

Position 10:

Program Associate or Specialist in Teaching and Learning
(PIC). Responsible for conducting research, developing tools,
and assisting teachers in improving their instructional
practices. Applicants should have a Master's degree, and 1 to
7 years experience conducting research at the classroom
level, and designing and providing professional development
to teachers.

Position 11:

3 Program Associates or Specialists in School Improvement
(SISS). Responsible for building R&D knowledge base on
comprehensive school reform, providing assistance to clients
on school improvement initiatives, and conducting research
and evaluation activities on such initiatives. Applicants
should have a Master's degree, and 1 to 7 years experience
working with schools on improving student outcomes.

Position 12:

Communications Specialist (OICPS). Responsible for writing or
compiling regular features for institutional magazine and
newsletter; creating or updating program and staff profiles,
manuals, fact sheets and media releases, including
information for web site; and assisting other staff in
reviewing, drafting, and editing informational products.
Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree, and 3 years
experience in communications field, strong writing and
editing skills. Publications management and graphic
experience also helpful.

Position 13:

Development Specialist (OID): Responsible for identifying and
initiating relationships with funding sources, providing
important information and access for staff members seeking
funding for new or continuing educational R & D projects.
Works with others to plan and write proposals. Applicants
should have a Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience in
deadline-critical non-profit fund raising, including roles in
funding research, program planning, and proposal writing.
Relevant work experience with education-related
organizations, including institutions of higher education,
preferred.

Competitive salary dependent on relevant education and
experience with excellent benefits package. Successful
candidates should have experience working in multi-cultural
settings and a proven track record of working effectively
with individuals and teams in the timely completion of
contract work.
