Hi all
I know this has been discussed before to some extent in the context of
advertising use of images but we have just come up with a wildlife magazine
using our images in an article saying that 'we never put web site addresses
with photos'. We were asking for the credit to read
'photographer/imagequest3d.com' They said that they would only put
'photographer/Image Quest 3-D'. While I am not overly concerned I am
interested to know if there is any reason why a magazine wouldn't or couldn't
use a web site credit? Is it because it is considered advertising? Have
others come up against this? What if the company name was 'imagequest3d.com'?
I'd be interested to hear others thoughts and experiences
Regards,
Chris

I've had my web address used as a credit line Chris, sometimes. I quite
understand that it is advertising and I mostly supply images for magazine
covers and why should you be able to turn their magazine into an advert?
Two solutions to encourage the use of your web address as a credit line,
firstly you could register the address as your company name and then you
could have more leverage in insisting the company name be used. Secondly
give a discounted price for the images if they use your url as a credit
line.

Hi Chris,

I never had any problems getting both my name and my web site as a credit, in
fact I just got them both on two images I least recently to Exxon/Mobil
Corp., to be used as a poster size for promotion in every mobil gas station
on the East Coast of the USA. However, I know many people who had this
problem. One easy way to get around it is to register your name as .com, for
example my web site is www.photov.com but I also registered my name
www.hishamibrahim.com. Now if I can only get my name as credit ©Hisham
Ibrahim, and someone wants to find me they usually try your name as your web
site, you can either link both sites or have one forward all visitors to the
other web site. This way whether they use your name or your web address you
are covered.

Hisham Ibrahim
