Hey everyone!

So, I guess it's been 8 years since I assembled my last system, so I'm looking for ideas for my next system. The thing is, I've been very happy with my system over the years. It's only been in the last 2-3 years that I've run up against an issue which got me considering an upgrade, and that's the need for more RAM.

I maxed out my system right away with 32GB of RAM. It was very good to me for a long time. Now, I'm almost always using all of it right away, and for the first time it's locking up due to a lack of RAM.

I see there are systems with a max of 64GB, 128GB, and some with 256GB. My last system cost around $1,200+, not counting Windows, extra peripherals, etc. Spending this much only to get 64GB max, I feel is a waste of money. 128GB is nicer, but 256GB is an ideal 8x upgrade.

So making a max 256GB my goal. I began to price out my intel system. But, I'm hearing so much about how AMD is rocking and how it's a way better, way cheaper build than Intel. If 256GB isn't your goal, then this premise is probably, mostly true.

However, finding the most cheapest AMD system that can handle a 256GB max vs a middle-ground Intel system of the same is showing that the AMD system is about $600 more over the Intel. The biggest Achilles-heel for AMD (price-wise that is) is that sTR4 CPUs are not compatible with sTRX4 motherboards. I would have gotten a cheaper AMD CPU, if I could. AAMOF, I almost considered a cheaper Intel CPU for now, but chances are I will never end up upgrading the CPU for another 8 years.

Here are the parts I have selected. If anyone can find a better deal, other advice or opinions I'm not thinking of, I'd love to hear it. Thanks, and have a Happy Easter weekend.

AMD Lowest Prices sTRX4 =~ $2,230

  •   Mobo - Asus ROG $450
  •   CPU - $ 1,446 3960X
  •   RAM (64) - $ Gskill = $330

Intel Lower Cost (LGA2066) =~ $1,600

  •   Mobo - Asus ROG $500
  •   CPU - $815 i9-9940X
  •   RAM (64) - $ Gskill = $280
