Hey All,

The list has been very quiet for quite a while. I hope everyone is
keeping safe and healthy.

I have a church that's asked me to give them a budget on Live video
streaming of their service. Their board originally wants to just buy a
laptop that can do it all: video stream, business work, etc.

I'm thinking this is a bad idea. Instead I was thinking of a dedicated
used linux desktop that can handle the streaming, get a nice camera, tie
into the sound system. and finally, just purchase a new laptop for the
pastor for his business usage.

Is this the right idea, or am I missing anything? What is your setup?
Thanks!

Eric

Have you or they look at the youtube live video stuff for getting the content to the church goers.  The big thing that i could see happening is that to do your own streaming service it could get overwhelmed by people connecting to it.

They are already streaming. It's more of a hardware update. The pastor's laptop needs an upgrade, and the council believes they can get one laptop for all things, on a budget: streaming, business, powerpoint, etc. I and the pastor thinks this is just a bad idea. Get some things used to be dedicated for streaming and powerpoint presentations. Then just focus on the laptop for business. Spend the extra money on a decent camera.

Yeah, that's what I would recommend. You don't want them to have to fiddle around attaching usb cables, trying to locate the laptop and whatnot every time they want to stream. Have a dedicated machine at the ready with simple instructions, turn it on follow these instructions bro make it work.
