I've had a storage server for a while, it used to be on Ubuntu, but I thought a more turn-key system would be nice, so I'm looking closely at truenas.
I had set up one of my old servers as a truenas system but had not used it heavily. I was able to rsync the data to it with no problems. Now, I'm having difficulty getting the data off of it. "permission denied" problems. Everything shows up as owned by "nobody:nobody"...
I made it worse by going into the truenas user interface and changing the owner of everything... Still "nobody:nobody" on my desktop. Previously, I only had permission problems with about 1 in 100 files, now it's everything. Before really messing things up I was able to copy the 99 of 100 files to a new system, but I would like to sync the other files if possible.
I have never really had to synchronize users over multiple systems, so kerberos, etc, hasn't really been on my radar. Is that what I'm missing? This server is on the way out... I just want to know that my data is saved from it...
Thanks!
James
PS. Sorry that I missed the last LUG meeting. I couldn't get away anyway, but Eric's emails ended up in my spam folder!?!
