FYI: CPU overheating issues

I tried to find the previous post on this, but I couldn't. So, to start
over...

For the past 3+ years, my CPU has gone from 80-90 degrees F, to about
120+. The fan would go crazy. I would dust it out and try again, but
nothing.

Someone (I think it may have been James or Matt) suggested to re-apply
the thermal paste to the CPU, that it can go hard and dry after sometime.

Well, I finally got to it this last weekend. I switched out the orginal
Intel Heatsink for something a little bit taller and bigger, but not too
big. I am using a small-mid size ATX case, and things are tight.

Indeed, the thermal paste was hard and dry. I used after market arctic
silver (my favorite), and now my heat levels have returned again to 80-90 F.

Nice, I need to do that for a video card on a laptop sometime :)
