moving an ssl certificate/running an ssl certificate on multiple servers

I haven't done much with ssl, but I was looking at consolidating a couple of our old servers. But I was told that to do so I'd have to buy new SSL certificates because SSL is server specific. Now I found a website that explains how to copy ssl certificates from one server to another, so you could actually run the same certificate on 2 diffrent servers. Is this illegal? any reason why I couldn't/shouldn't do this? other than the logical/obvious limitations when running a website on 2 servers, like needing to load balance and/or run with multiple sub-domains, which in the case of moving the certificate wouldn't apply.

I think I might have found my answer here. Even though it's not illegal in the sense that there's no law against it, it's a license agreement thing from the person/group you purchase the ssl from, and if you do decide to use the same certificate on multiple machines, it degrades security.

Unless you have a "wildcard" certificate, that type of certificate is
good for any use within the same domain.
