Usb 2.0 To 10 100m Ethernet Adaptor Driver

Iam new to Linux. I recently installed Xubuntu. My computer is dual-booted with Windows 7 and Xubuntu running in the same machine. It works fine in every way. The internet in Xubuntu also worked fine. However, a few days back, due to a lightning strike, the internet port in the rear side of my CPU got damaged. The ethernet cable was operational, but due to internet port damage, I lost my internet connection.

I bought a usb 2.0 10/100M ethernet adapter (Kontron DM9601 fast ethernet adapter) and plugged the ethernet LAN cable into it. This adapter was then plugged into a USB port. After installing the right drivers and re-configuring the IP Addresses (the ones which were there before the port damage) in Windows 7, the internet seems to have returned and the Internet works well in Windows 7. However, when I restarted the machine and opened Xubuntu, there was disappointment ahead. Even when the adapter was plugged in, there was no internet connection in Xubuntu. I configured VPN > Created a new Ethernet Connection > Deleted the existing but unusable Ethernet Connection > Set the Mac Address > Set the IP Address, netmask, Gateway, DNS Server under IPv4 Settings> Saved and closed the Network Connections box.

There is still no internet in Xubuntu. One thing I would like to mention is that, there is a feeble connection for a few seconds and then I am back to disconnected. The connection lasts for so short time that I cannot open any website with it.

I can't figure out what does most of these stuff mean, but from the looks of it, I recognize dm9601 which has some link with my usb to ethernet connection. There are 3 entries related to dm9601 at the beginning of lsmod list. I am relisting them below for your ready perusal.

How do I install the drivers for DM9601 ethernet adapter in Xubuntu? I firmly think that this is most likely a driver problem. I received a mini-disk during purchase of the usb-to-ethernet adapter with driver files to be installed in linux. However, I can't figure out 'How to do it!!!'. Is there anyone who can offer an easy step-by-step procedure for installation of DM9601 driver in Xubuntu? I have listed the output of important commands above. If someone needs any more info, I shall gladly provide it. It is really hopeless to work without internet in Xubuntu. Installation of some softwares are very difficult without net due to dependencies and stuff. Thanks.

If you have an eth0, it appears that the internal ethernet is (sort of) working. I suggest we find out its driver and blacklist it so the two interfaces don't potentially conflict. Please edit your question to add the full result of:

Another strange thing is that the interface the driver creates is called enx00e04c534458 (the number is also the MAC address of the adapter), which is different than any ethX for native ethernet ports.

These are the specifications that i get under Applications->utilities->system information->USB. My problem is that there is no USB option in my Network (yes i have tried clicking the '+' to add,there is no option for usb in the drop down interface list) Rather than getting the thing to work ,i would be happy to get the usb option in Networks at least . i have tried installing drivers left and right but still no luck. Help? Somebody ?

I have the same issue with the same device. So far, I've been unable to fix it. The little bugger lights up like its working but I cannot connect though it. I'll let you know if I find something if you'll do the same. Kicking myself for not just spending the money on a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. I've saved no money since I've spent the last 2 days working on this issue.

While you do list a USB vendor ID you do not make it clear what make of adapter you are using, I would guess it is not the Apple one as firstly the Apple one does not need an additional driver and secondly it has no lights on it. (I have just successfully tested the Apple one under Yosemite 10.10.1)

I have not looked at 10/100 USB2 adaptors for Mac other than Apple's but for 10/100/1000 USB3 Ethernet adaptors most of these use the same Asix chipset and hence use the same drivers, this includes the KanexLive branded one for example. These drivers did have to be updated for Yosemite compatibility, you can get the KanexLive one from their website, but the generic driver is available here =pItemdetail&PItemID=131;71;112 as you will see this was only released towards the end of December 2014.

I tried updating everything, even setting the negotiation manually to 1GB and 2.5GB with full duplex, still nothing, won't go up faster than 100mb/s, I'm using a cat6e cable so that's not the issue, my other computers on the same LAN are at 600mb/s and even with the wi-fi on any phone I can get up to 250mb/s so it's clearly an issue with the Ethernet controller/HW.

Could you please provide me any solution to this issue?

I would hate to have to dissasemble my build and have to send back the motherboard just for the Ethernet card, as I do not plan to buy an extra PCIe Ethernet card just because I got some faulty Hardware...

1. Based on the error that you received, you could be limited by the port on the router. Given that one computer via LAN is working okay, have you tried connecting it on the same port where that computer is connected to? Please also try the cable used on that machine if possible.

I can pickup where Nil0r left off as I just purchased an ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming motherboard with the I225-V network card and I'm experiencing the same issues. I have tried the previous suggestions and still yielded the same results of 100Mbps being my throughput cap. Please advice.

Can anyone tell me WTF Intel is still selling garbage broken network adapters?? This problem has been going on for over a year and still after a myriad of issues this trash product is still being sold!!??? I just bought a new Asus TUF Z690 and now I experience trash download speeds, speedtest is fine but downloads from Nvidia or other places my X570 board Asus Hero board had ZERO issues this garbage network adapter downloads from 2mbyte to maybe10 MAX. Some downloads are fine others are not. THIS IS A TRASH PRODUCT since it's a problem that has been existing for a very long time, why are you keep selling customers trash??

Same problem occurs on my brand new motherboard too. I've build 12900K and DDR5 system for office but I can't even connect office's LAN network... Capping adapter's speed to 100mbps Full Duplex from PROSet Adapter Configuration Utility with latest driver (1.0.2.14) is working but this speed is literally from 15 years early

Intel says ethernet controller can handle 2.5 Gbps but in realty we are getting 0.1 Gbps; it is just funny.

This problem has existed since the internet controller was released, and since it appears on different motherboards from different manufacturers with different chipsets, different configurations of computers connected to different routers with different cables, there must be a problem with the internet controller itself. Since different drivers haven't solved the problem for years, maybe there is a physical problem.

I managed to solve my problem by inserting an extra unnecessary switch. So, remembering that the computer was in an office environment, I first connected the LAN cable coming from the computer to an unnecessary switch to which no other device was connected, then to the general switch of the office, and then to the modem.

At first the problem was not solved, but after unplugging it again, we have been able to get full speed without any problems for 2 years. I have no idea why it solved the problem, but you know, if it works, it's not stupid.

I'm sure there's something wrong with this controller itself, but for some reason, it's surprising that the controller, which is so widely used on so many motherboards, doesn't receive proper support from Intel.

I did run into this issue after installing the latest drivers, and suddenly I had max 100 Mb/s speeds, I fixed it by completely uninstalling the device and it's drivers (after uninstalling and restarting pc it worked automatically), however I installed drivers again but now not the latest one but second to latest and for now I don't see the issue in this driver. I did that because before all that I had a problem when from time to time I was having DNS errors that forced me to restart my network card to even load any website, and it stopped after downloading latest drivers, but this issue appeared hopefully it's also fixed with drivers I installed now and everything will work as should from beginning.
