YAL @ UAB will be meeting this Thursday at 7:30 pm to discuss the public education system. This presentation will be led by Igor Gembitsky. All perspectives are welcome, we like to have a diversity of views represented during these discussions. The following are some of the points that will be touched on:
Why is America paying more than any other nation for education (per capita) and seeing poor results? Why is the cost of education (public and higher education) going up every year, while the quality remains the same?
As our 21st century educational needs are accelerating due to the technology/communication revolution that is consistently expanding the possibilities of the future, the inadequacies and failures of our rickety and entrenched 19th century school system are becoming more apparent. It is a system of enormous expense and extreme inefficiency, having been dulled over time through lack of competition and politicized by special interests.
Is there a better way? Charter schools? School vouchers? Privatization?
Please join us for a discussion led by Igor Gembitsky on Thursday, about how we might be able to harness the endless possibilities of education in the 21st century.
