I’ve added more events to the calendar, including two races in Alabama and the web addresses for several events. I’m still missing the web addresses for some events. If you see that I’m missing an event, please let me know and I’ll update this.

Well 2010 is here which means the Ride of Love is right around the corner. I can’t believe this is going to be the 10th Anniversary of the Ride of Love and also the 25th Anniversary of Camp Smile-A-Mile, what an exciting year! I want to share something with you all that happened yesterday that really touched my heart. I was out gathering art work, etc. for our upcoming Red Nose Ball on February 20 and my artist friend Jennifer Harwell called to say that her painting for the live auction was ready so I ran by her gallery to pick it up and I was absolutely speechless and touched when I saw it. I simply just stood there and stared at it for a bit obviously overcome with emotion because it’s a story that’s been written with her paintbrush.
I met Jennifer when I signed up for her painting classes 3 years ago and the rest is history. Jennifer has become a dear friend of mine and Camp SAM has become Jennifer’s cause. I get the opportunity to take her and watch her (assist her) paint with the kids at Camp SAM every summer now during one of the camp sessions. Jennifer paints the most beautiful angels & one day she was telling me some angel stories & I shared with her a very private moment that I have on the Ride of Love that started the very first year and continues year after year with some of the kids that simply aren't here anymore. She remembered that story and this is what she wrote on the back of the painting:
“This year is the 25th anniversary for Camp SAM and also the 10th anniversary of the annual “Ride of Love”, the 150 mile fundraising and commemorative bike ride founded and led by Stephanie Wilkins. Stephanie has shared her very personal story with me about nearing the end of the ride and encountering a “still spot” toward the end of the bridge to Children’s Harbor. Most every year she sees a child or children waving and cheering from the grassy lawn nearest the bridge from the Chapel. This painting is really a “storyboard” and includes 25 guardian angels as witnesses and protectors of a very real and sacred time and place.”
Jennifer, is an amazing person, teacher & artist....I am proud to call her my friend. Now I've just got to figure out how I'm going to become rich in 3 weeks so that I can bid & win the painting because I'm simply not sure I can part with it!
I have attached a photo of the painting…enjoy! If you look closely you’ll be able to see yourselves on that bridge…..so many cyclists…..so many people coming together to give these special children smiles…..thank you all so very much for what yall have done and what we will all do together once again on May 15, 2010!
Much love and gratitude, Stephanie (Queen Bee)
