I'm no road bike expert, so it's tough to add too many details. I figure 56 cm should be the right size for a guy who's 5'10", 165. Plus, 56 felt a little better than 58 when I've ridden them both. The Trek Emonda rental from Cahaba Cycles was what I rode during the Tour de Cahaba & it held up well. Something similar to that, under $1000 is my price range. Also open to cross bikes or bikes that can be either road or cross. Preferably not on the heavily used end; something in really good condition. I'm also checking stores, Redemptive, etc.

Dear Old Howard 100 Cyclists and Supporters:

I’m very happy to report that yesterday I traveled to Marion to present a check for $14, 158.11 to the leadership team of Sowing Seeds of Hope as we met for a luncheon in their offices within the Perry County Health Department. They will use these proceeds from this year’s ride, in part, to upgrade the technology that provides access to health databases. Healthcare interns from Samford also will continue to use some of these funds for emergency patient care when needed. Your dollars and faithful support are making a tangible difference in the work of the clinic.

With this check from the 2016 Old Howard, the total proceeds from the event over twelve years now come to $57,799. Thank you!

The ride continues to grow and prosper as people discover the beauty of the area, but Howard College now will step back and not try to continue organizing the event from our campus offices eighty miles away. Instead, the leadership of Sowing Seeds of Hope plans to take it on, in partnership with other local organizations. You should watch for an announcement in the coming weeks about specific plans, but do go ahead for now and put April 22, 2017 (the weekend after Easter) on your calendar.

Howard and I look forward to riding in next year’s Old Howard 100!
