A CHILD IN NEED OF OUR HELP

Some dear friends of mine have a 19 month old son that is at Children's hospital with a very fast growing cancer, Medulloblastoma (cancer of the nervous system). After hearing the news of this I had decided to dedicate my fall/spring/summer race season to Elijah and raise money for childhood cancer research in his name. He starts chemotherapy today and is very weak. Not only that but his mother is 6 months pregnant. Needless to say, things are very difficult and we want to do everything we can to help prevent this from happening to other families.

I have a web site up to take donations. Any sort of publicity that you could provide here would be great. I have also thought about putting together a ride to help raise more money so anyone who as experience organizing something like that, I'd love to hear from them.

Here is the link to donate.

Thanks for any help you can give.

If you have any kind of product that is cycling related or can help improve cycling, then feel free to post these.

In order to post, you’ll have to register as a user of the site and then confirm your registration.  After that, simply login and click on “write ad” and you’re off and running!

BBC (CLUB) NEWS
BBC members:

In preparation for Monday’s club meeting, you might want to try mapping your preferred bike routes using Google Earth.  You can down load it easily (I tried; it worked). After you down load the program, you can view the attached sample bike route from Eric at Samford (sent courtesy of Rosemary Fisk).

See you Monday!

BBC membership meeting - mark your calendars

Event:  BBC Meeting

Date:  Monday, November 17, 2008

Location:  Irondale Café, 1906 1st Ave N, Irondale, AL 35210, (205) 956-5258

Time:  6:30pm

Program:  Bike Routes

As a follow-up to last month’s meeting, Rosemary Fisk has arranged to bring a large laminated map and markers so that we can identify key routes.  She also has invited two geography professors from Samford University, who can provide their input and insight.  Watch for follow-up email courtesy of the Samford group with an example of how Google Earth can be used to illustrate routes.  I have spoken to Tom Maxwell (Regional Planning) about this.  He and I will be meeting to review the routes.  He is working on a “Complete Streets” initiative that potentially will incorporate our ideas.  We need input from all areas of the region (Hoover, Mountain Brook, Homewood, Irondale, etc.).  Please come and provide your input.

Plan to have dinner at the café (6:30pm), followed by a brief business meeting (6:45pm).  Program will follow (7:00pm).  The café closes at 7:30, so we must be out by 8:00 pm.

I am sorry, I left out a little more information… They are only about 3 years old and in great shape, we barely rode them.

They both have lights as you can see, and we have several accessories that go with them. I am asking $600 for the GIANT

and $325 for the TREK.

Thanks again, Tommy

------------------------------------------------------------------

 Hello fellow cyclists.

Faris Malki over at Cahaba Cycles provided me this mass email list.  I am a customer of Faris', living up in Jacksonville.  Because of back, hip and nerve damage problems, I am forced to curtain my cycling by about 90%.  No more century rides, no more big hill or mountains, no more 8,000 mile years.  I have decided there is no need to keep my stable of bikes if I am not going to be able to ride them.  I will keep my favorite, my Trek Madone SSL, however will put the others up for sale.

I have been running them on Craig's List in Atlanta.
I have received many emails regarding these bikes.  However, some folks there seem to think I will practically give these bikes away.  But, that is not going to happen.  These are TOP quality carbon road bikes.  The one Cannondale aluminum bike was Cannondale's top aluminum frame for that season.  These are, as you experienced cyclist will know, are not Wal Mart $600 type bikes.  The pros ride these frames.  So, if you are interested, the info is below.  I apologize if I sound sort of snoody, but a lot of those folks from Craig's List have emailed back after I sent the info too them with rather snotty remarks.  I just want folks to understand I am not going to take $800 for one of these bikes.  I will just continue to advertise them until a serious rider comes along and still gets a top quality bike at a discount.

So, here is all the information:

All the bikes have the Shimano Flightdeck SC-6501 computers.  All have the Shimano SPD peddles.  All bikes have the equipment bags under the seat with two spare tubes, air pump adapter, and the thing you take the tire off with too change the flat tubes.  All have a pump attached too the bottle holders.  All my bikes have Shimano Dura-Ace shifters/brakes.  All were up graded with the Bontrager carbon stems within the past year.  These stems are 6 or 12 degrees.  I use the 12 because of my back problems.  The stem can be flipped to the 6 degree and lower ride.  Those were $250 apiece.  They have compact 50/36 & 12/27 crank, clog.  My wife's bikes have 50/34 and 12/27 clogs.  Her Synapse is the same type as mine.  The Cannondale 5000 has the Ultegra shifters/brakes.

None have ever been on the ground, no crashes.  Has minor use scratches as would be expected, but nothing you can just stand there and point too.  You have to really look too even see the minor ones.  The Orca photo has orange bar tape, but I have black tape on it now.  It came with crummy American Classic wheel set, but I bought Bontrager's and put those on instead of the AC's.  The bike is light as a feather. The Synapse and Trek have blue tires.  The R3 has white.  All maintained by my local Trek dealer in Anniston with tuneups, etc.  If interested, please feel free to contact me via email for any questions.  Faris can verify that I am real and this is not a scam.  He sold me the Cervelo R3.  Thanks in advance for your interest.

Here is the info re sale:

Trek Madone 5.9, size 56:  A 2004 model bike that I purchased in 2007 brand new.  Found it advertised by a Chicago area Trek dealer on the Internet.  Since Trek does not allow Internet sales, my local dealer contacted him, purchased it, then sold it too me.  I put the Bontrager carbon wheel set on it.  The wheel set cost $1,350.  Bike cost:  $4,999.99.  I will sell it for $3,800.

Cervelo R3, size 56:  A 2006 model, purchased in 2007.  Cost:  $4,500.  Sale:  $3,000.  Same bike as pro team CSC rides.  This is an excellent riding bike.  Very stiff bottom bracket.  Can read about it on the Cervelo web site.  (I have an offer on this bike.  I am waiting on the guy to determine if he can come up with the cash.  If not, then I will put it back up for sale)

Orbea Orca, size 57:  A 2005 model purchased in 2005.  Cost:  $4,350.  Upgraded with Bontrager wheel set as well as the stems mentioned above.  Sale:  $2,500.  Same bike as pro Spanish team Euskaltel-Euskadi rides.  Orbea updated the Orca model this year.  If you look at the Orbea web site for the Orca you will see how different the look of the frame is now.

Cannondale Synapse, size 56:  A 2005 model purchased in 2005.  Cost:  $4,400.  Sale:  $2,500.  This was Cannondale's first full carbon bike.  They have really changed the Synapse now and have different levels of the quality of the carbon, thus different prices.

My wife's Cannondale Synapse, size 47:  A 2005 model purchased in 2006. Cost:  $4,400. Sale:  $2,500.

My wife's Cannondale 5000, size 48:  A 2005 model purchased in 2005.  Cost:  $2,300.  Sale:  $1,200.
