Subject: Public Comment - Widening Caldwell Mill Road

Last night Jack & I were able to attend the Public Comment Meeting for the Widening of Caldwell Mill road. We left by 6 and hadn't seen any other cyclists that we knew. We NEED to get our cyclist friends to return favorable comments - the folks that were at the meeting were the property owners near the bridge, and they aren't too excited. And while these plans show a sidewalk and include bike route plans the last iteration DID NOT. Food for thought - would we actually want bike lanes? Shelby County is doing this for projects in Pelham.....

Either use the attached .pdf for your comments or send an e-mail directly to Sandra Bonner at this address bon...@dot.state.al.us
if you send an e-mail and do Not use the form be sure to include the project number STPBH-5939(200) Widening of CR-29/Camp Horner Road (Caldwell Mill Road) from Heatherwood Drive to Acton Road
You MUST include your first and last name and address

Comments are due by May 11, 2016

As shown the plans now are:
to add a 12' center turn lane on Camp Horner from Acton to Caldwell Mill Road
add a 12' center turn lane on Caldwell Mill road from Camp Horner South to just past the Heatherwood Dr light (this will make Caldwell Mill 3 land to AL 119
11' travel lanes
10' paved shoulder
sidewalk on the East side
Bike Route signs for the entire distance.

Please pass this message along and encourage walkers and cyclists to provide positive input

comments that I am going to make are:
I am IN FAVOR of this project as shown with the following comments
a crosswalk and pedestrian signal is needed at the Heatherwood Dr light
Caldwell Mill from Camp Horner to Acton needs bike route signs & Sharrows
(definition: sharrow - a painted marking on the roadway indicating bicycles share the lane)
my preference for sharrows is because signs disappear over time - paint stays
Paint Sharrows on the roadway in addition to the bike route signs
