Events in Birmingham for XO

Hello All,
I wanted to let you know about a couple of events that will be
happening over the next few weeks.

1) Birmingham Public Library
Monday, July 28, 2008 6:00-8:00pm, Story Castle



2) XO eXpO
The XO eXpO is the first event of it's kind and will focus on the
implementation of Birmingham's XO Laptop Initiative and the impact of
technology on Birmingham’s future leaders. It is expected to bring
together educators, parents, students, business, political, and
community leaders who are invested in this program.

The XO eXpO will be held on August 23, 2008, at the McWane Science
Center from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm and will include two sessions. Space is
limited for the first session which is designed for leaders,
educators, and other supporters in the Birmingham community (8:30 am -
12:15 pm), and will feature speakers from the Mayor's Office,
University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Birmingham City Schools.
Topics will include: Birmingham's place in the worldwide XO community,
the vision and financial sustainability of the program, the future of
the project in Birmingham, and voices from educators associated with
the pilot program at Glen Iris Elementary School.

The second session (1:00 - 3:00 pm) is open to the public with their
general admittance to McWane Science Center. Magic Seth, a renowned
computer scientist and magician, will kick off the second session by
wowing the Magic City with a magic show incorporating the XO Laptop.
This is followed by an exposition featuring students summer projects
using the XO Laptop, UAB's preliminary research on the impact of the
project, the XO Hospital, and other demonstrations.
