Group,

I hope this finds everyone well.  Per my earlier requests, I've gotten enough feedback to start putting work back into the group.  Before I do, I'd like to talk about a few things.

First, BOSS (Birmingham Open Source Software):  This group has a lot of people who might be in the JUG, but it's a very broad base.  One reason for re-establishing the JUG is that breadth tends to dilute things a lot.  Does anyone agree or disagree?

Second, Names: I hate BAJUG as a name, but the original MCJUG domain wasn't available.  I was considering purchasing a domain and hosting for our group, but I'd like to hear some possible alternatives to the name before I spend the money.  I'm interested in returning to the MCJUG name that Marc started years ago, but if anyone has an alternative (or just likes BAJUG), please comment.

Third, Schedule:  As of now, I'm expecting meetings to go for about 1-2 hours with 1-3 presentations each, every month or every other month based on available presentations.

Fourth, Responsibilities: Based on some feedback, I'd like to line up a few people as sponsors for our group and as contributors to our work.  We once had a list of topics, but I've long-since lost it.  If anyone has a topic they'd like to present on or see presented, please let me know.  One of the reasons the group languished previously is that there wasn't much in the way of outside input.  I'm placing a call for people to get their co-workers or friends or just people who can present interesting JVM-based topics to get involved in showing us their work.

Regards,
Mykel

Sounds good!

I'll volunteer to give a presentation. Topic idea would be a couple of projects I've worked on relating to Java persistence.

Mykel,

I think it would be awesome to resurrect the JUG.  I also like the MCJUG name but that's just my opinion and one vote.  Is there any tentative schedule yet or place to meet?  I might have some ideas for space unless you already have something in mind.

As far as topics go, I've played around with Java 8 some but would like to see some code showed off that is really using some of the features they added.
