Hi all,

I've got all the parts now for the servo evening on 29/9, and it comes to an awesomely insignificant £3.25 (+ FP subs) per person, including a servo :) I've got ten sets of parts, which I'll make available on a first come, first served, basis.

I've written a webpage with simple info on connecting the Arduino and servo if anyone wants to play in advance:

http://www.geocomputing.co.uk/getpage.php?type=page&page=servoguage

There's a photo on it of all the parts supplied for the price (excluding sticky-tak which will also be included). For the evening there will be free code to make the simple light meter, a light following meter, and control the servo over usb. I might even play with controlling the servo using processing, and maybe even using a wiimote, if anyone's interested.

However, with the supplied parts and code this should be easily within the reach of most beginners, and I'll do my best to help anyone having any newbie problems on the night. For anyone unsure, to make the project you'll need to bring a computer (with the Arduino software installed), an Arduino, and a breadboard (or strip/vero board) which you can get quite cheap in Maplins if needed.

If you've got an Android phone, iPhone, or iPod Touch (and probably many other modern phones) you can read the above webpage on the move in the new electronics section of my mobile website:

Best wishes,

Andrew.

Andrew, would you like an account for the blog so you can publicise
this to a wider audience?
Also, before that happens, have you sorted access to the building
etc?

Hi Nikki,

I'm happy if you want to, but it's just a themed thing for anyone interested on the night so please don't publicise it on my account (I take it that's what you wanted when you asked for themes for hack sessions?). Obviously that means I'm expecting it to be a part of a hack session, so if the place is locked up then I'm happy to do it whenever the next session is (except this week).

Best wishes,

Andrew.

I wasn't going to! Deal was that theme-coordinators took care of the
publicity.
Don't think we get many people reading these discussion group posts,
so blog's the next place to put information about components and
access to code etc to make sure there's a decent chance of hacksession
attendees knowing what's going on.

As of Ant's departure from the admin side of stuff there are no hack
sessions unless someone opens up.

The duties that I currently undertake at hack sessions that need
covering are as follows:

* Opening the building
* Setting out tables and chairs
* Getting the spare soldering irons out if necessary
* Getting out all of the extension cables
* Putting the urn on and getting the other soft drinks out
* Putting on heating if needed
* Doing all of the above, but in reverse! (put away tables, soft
drinks, soldering irons etc)
* Putting the alarm on

I asked awhile back if it'd be ok if others could have the keys in
order to lock up and they said that as long it's a regular fizzPOP'er
and we let them know in advance then it'd be ok. They've had the alarm
fitted since then, so will need to double-check about that
