Hi,

If anyone wants info on using a wiimote in processing I thought I'd let you know I've uploaded a web page at the link below. Basically I took my 3D virtual sailing program and made it wiimote controlled. Full source code is there too.

http://www.geocomputing.co.uk/getpage.php?type=page&page=wiisea

For Android and iPhone users (and ipod touch, probably blackberry and many mobile opera users too) it's also on my mobile website which is at the following (shameless plugging I know:) link:

http://www.geocomputing.co.uk/geophone/index.html

I hope it's useful for anyone who wants some wiimote fun :)

Best wishes,

Andrew.

Nice :-)

If folks haven't got bluetooth, they can use an Arduino to talk to the
I2C interface. There are lots of web sites with details, and there is
an I2C library for Arduino. We made a Wii nunchuk socket by butchering
an old PC motherboard, to tear off the firewire connector. The centre
'male' part of a firewire socket fits into the nunchuk quite nicely.

Hi Garry,

Interestingly, a wiimote is probably a really good sensor for your horizontal bungee frame idea too :)

Best wishes,

Andrew.

Andrew

Nice :-)

Yes, though if the 'sentient projectile' held it in their hand, erm,
sorry, manipulating appendage, the illusion of being somehow in
control might be dangerous :-)

I hadn't noticed how the Wii nunchuck price has reduced. Last time I
looked in a shop it was about £14. Amazon have them for about £5.50.
So I am thinking one of those on each pong-skate might be a good way
to go.

Check eBay for the nunchucks, I picked up one, delivered, for £3. Insane!

Dave - Thanks for the tip.

I ended up paying waaaay over the odds, at £3.27 inc delivery, but I'm
not disappointed.
At that price, I'm willing to cut the plug off :-)

Cheers - GB

Hi Garry,

I was thinking more in terms of a motion sensor for the pc visualisation you mentioned Ant might do. It's an amazingly cheap bluetooth accelerometer :)

Best wishes,

Andrew.

It is just a dumb, wired nunchuk, so it will need something to
interface to a PC.
I did look for a wireless Wiimote, but gave up at £9.99 :-)
Maybe I'll dig around some other sites, as eBay is sometimes not the
cheapest.

A tenner for a wireless accelerometer, wireless buttons, and wireless IR tracking camera is amazing value. Go on, you know you want one really :)

Andrew

I may have mislead you. What I did was: I looked for "wiimote" at
eBay, starting at the lowest cost, and working upwards.
After looking at several hundred items, having failed to find one, and
having reached £9.99, I gave up.

I've just looked again, and it seems they are about £12 from HK. I
agree that is very good value for a wireless accelerometer, buttons,
and IR tracking camera. Yes I do want one, but I'm trying to get my
ARM prototype made, and order some Bat-microphones.
