Hopefully, this will become a forum for planning meals and meetups in
the area! Let's start with Red Pearl. How does 9/14-17 or 9/21-24
sound?

I'm in pretty much whenever. Note they are closed on Mondays.

I'm available 9/15-17 and 9/23-24. Sounds like a great opportunity!

I'm good with 9/15 too. Why don't we say 7pm at Red Pearl?

I could do that. Note although Chowhound does not allow the
coordinating of chow dinners on the board, they do allow a post on it
saying something along the lines of "We have organized a Birmingham
Red Pearl Chow dinner for 9/15 at 7 PM. Details to be found at (link
google group here)." Sometimes some extra folks will show up.

9/15 at 7pm. I'll be there. Thanks for arranging this.

HI All. I am new to the online group. Thanks for arranging the 9/15
Red Pearl outing. Sounds like fun. I will try to make it.
Cheers,

So we have 6-7 people right now? From prior dinners (in other
cities), I've found it's best for the group not to get too large (ie
usually 10 at most) just so everyone can try a dish without having to
order 2 of the same dishes. Also, cash is king for these events as
most times we have generally just split the bill evenly amount all
diners, but obviously that can change if there are large booze
expenditures. Looking forward to the dinner.

I think there are actually 12. We can do two tables of 6 if that'd be easier - still will be able to try a lot.

I'm about 75% at this point. Might have to be in Dallas on business. :-

Dax raises a good point about settling the bill. But there's one twist: At Red Pearl you pay at the cash register up front, and not in the restaurant. Here's what I suggest: Ask the server at the beginning to divide up the food bill evenly. Anyone who wants alcohol can purchase separately (they don't serve it per se in the restaurant, but probably allow people to drink from the 6 packs of beer or bottles of wine sold in the market).
I'm very psyched for this.

I just called and they said that they would be ready for us! We'll be able to pay up front and split it up any way we'd like.

Thanks Bryant. I was considering calling them myself.

I'm probably going to bow out. I had sinus surgery over 3 weeks ago
and have, since last Tuesday, lost ALL sense of smell and taste. I
mean not even a slight hint of flavor presents itself to my tongue.
Pretty depressing.

I'm disappointed. I'm assuming this is temporary and hope to join the
next chow down.

Bryant, thanks for arranging. Even though it was just you, Big Daddy
and myself we got to try a nice number of (mostly) newer dishes. Next
time we need more folks to broaden the menu selections. Bryant, I look
forward to the write-up!

Also, here is that Alabama Eats blog I mentioned last night.
