Dear BirdVox community,
We have identified an issue with the TaxoNet model deployed in BirdVoxDetect v0.4 (and up), which leads to unexpectedly low accuracy for species classification.
To address this, we have just released BirdVoxDetect v0.5.1, which reverts our species classifier to the model released in v0.2. For more details about both models please see [1].
To update to the latest version please run the following command from your python environment: pip install -u birdvoxdetect
Note that this issue is unrelated to the flight call detection component of BirdVoxDetect, only to the subsequent species classification. The model for detecting the onset of a flight call in a recording, independently of the species, remains entirely unaffected and unchanged in this release.
We are working to address the issue and hope to be able to release an updated TaxoNet model in the near future. In the meanwhile, we recommend that you update your BirdVoxDetect installation as noted above so that both the detection and classification components work as intended.
If you have any questions related to this update, or any other feedback regarding BirdVoxDetect, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you!
Justin, on behalf of the BirdVox team.
