Dear Prasanthi,

I thank you for the update on the Sevagram visit. The good response
is very encouraging. A two-day or a three-day visit would have the
following:

1. Sevagram Ashram: Bapu Kuti (where Mahatma Gandhi lived for about a
decade), other structures in the Ashram which are historic. Gandhi
Exhibition - information on Gandhi's life and message. Nai Talim
School - Basic Education concept based school. Participation in
Prayer Meeting. Meeting several ashramites, discussions with some of
the experienced people in Gandhian movement. Book Stall, Khadi and
Village industries stalls (people can purchase literature and
articles), Organic farming in the Ashram, Goshala - cow based
agriculture.

2. Magan Sangrahalaya: A centre of rural industries exhibition, Khadi
production, natural dyes, place where J.C. Kumarappa lived (famous
Gandhian Economist who developed rural industries). This was
established and developed by Devendrakumar Gupta who was a Vice
Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural University. His wife, Prabha Gupta
lived in Pinakini Satyagraha Ashram for some time and is closely
associated with Nellore.

3. Centre of Science for Villages: A place where rural technologies
were developed and used - hand made paper, biogas technology,
Medicinal plants, Pottery, Nonviolent-Honey, low cost irrigation
systems etc.

4. Housing Technology Centre: low cost housing technology, sanitation
technology, drinking water and other technologies

5. Pavnar Ashram: This is where Acharya Vinoba Bhave lived and
worked. Presently there is a goshala, publication centre and other
activities.

6. Gopuri: Centre for rural industries - Khadi, Oil Ghani, production
of Charkhas - both Ambar Charkha and Peti Charkha. Bajaj Exhibition

7. Gosamvardhan Goras Bhandar: An enterprise based on cow running for
over 70 years which brings value addition to the farmers and
consumers. They have high quality dairy products providing Rs.17 per
litre of cow milk to the farmers and supplying to consumers at Rs.20
per litre. Perhaps no dairy unit in the country runs on such low
margins for the administration and profits.

8. Viswa Santhi Stupa: A Monmument depicting the importance of peace
and nonviolence. A buddhist shrine.

9. Gitai Mandir: Another important tourist place in Wardha.

There are other places that can be included depending on time
availability. The important aspect of this visit should be to spend
more time on understanding the Gandhian concept of Truth & Nonviolence
and how a society based on these principles can be built. We will have
more time to internalise, reflect and discuss Gandhian perspectives
and how they can be helpful to our work.

Should you need any further information please let me know.

Regards,

Prasad.

Friends,

Am trying all possible sources to get the confirmed tickets for us.

I requested Vijay Raghavan of MMTS Travellers Group to talk with the
Railway Officials that he interacted with.

I also requested Karthik Pavan of TV9 to talk to his friend for the
tickets. His friend was not reachable yesterday. Karthik says that if
he can catch hold of his friend we can get the tickets.

I am crossing my fingers and waiting.

I need your inputs as well. Barring the elder members how many of us
are ready to travel by bus? We have 10 elderly members and two or
three members to give company to them. Is that ok if we get 15 tickets
on train and 15 by bus?

We need to book either today or tomorrow not later than that.

:) Please bear with me if the number dwindles plus or minus 5 years to
your actual age.

I am not able to contain my excitement after getting few more
confirmations. Very very happy and looking forward for the trip.

Tomorrow we are going to Nampally Station. Tonight also we get updates
from other resources.

If at all we do not get tickets in train, we are going to book Bus for
us exclusively for our trip. Except Sowmya no one denied the trip by
bus.

Will update you all by tomorrow evening.

You can still rope in your friends. We have time till tomorrow
morning.

Friends,

Today Suresh garu went to Nampally Station and met the Chief PRO. To
our wonder he suggested us to book in Tatkal !! Earlier they used to
sanction bulk bookings for Study Tours and of late they stopped due to
heavy rush. This is what we were told.

Anyway Suresh garu will now approach AP Tourism Board for a special
bus for us. If this too doesn't work we will approach Private Travels.
As of now 34 members confirmed. If we book a 40 seater we can
accommodate 6 more people who might be willing to join us provided
they get time.

Yesterday evening I met Prasad garu and he introduced me two people,
Srinivas and Suresh, who will be guiding us in the trip. We can ask
them to come along with us in the bus. Will mail to Prasad garu.

This is what Prasad garu mailed to me when I told him that we have
some problem with the booking.
==============
If the rail reservations become a problem, road travel can be
preferred as we have the requisite number of participants. It takes 9
hours by road.
==================

He also told me that the route is a National Highway and it would be a
comfortable journey on road too.

Hi Prasanthi,

I have visited AP Touism Office at Basheerbagh and found their rates are really shocking. This is the information what they have provided.

Min 500 KM a day @ 3 days : Rs.82, 500
20% deposit (refundable) : 16,500
Service tax @ 12.36 : 10,197
Res : 250
AP Motor Vehicle Tax : 2750
Border (Maharashtra) tax : 12,000 (approx)

Total: Rs, 1, 13, 147.00

Total damages will be Rs. 98,000 (after deduction of refundable amount). Almost 1 lakh.

I don't think this is a worthy deal. Anyway, I am contacting the RTC people now, will update soon.

Regards

Suresh

Vijay of MMTS Travellers advised to book the Waiting List tickets and let him know the numbers so that he will approach the official that he knows and get his advise. Only concern is that what if he also suggests to book in Tatkal?

I want to talk to one rsource that I know and ask for his advice. If this does not work out, we need to go with a bus only.

Dr. Giri also will be talking to the Transport people that he knows.

The new info. is that Dr. Amte's place is also very close by to this place and we can visit that as well. Lets see.

We will keep you posted.

Friends,

This is the status as of now:

We got Sangeetha Travels agreeing for Rs. 310 as of now. We are negotiating to further lessen the price as we need not go till Nagpur.

Tonight we will get a clear picture of whether we can secure tickets for onwards journey. If not, we will go with Sangeetha Travels.

We will book train tickets for return journey. As they are in Waiting List we can get them confirmed by that day.

This is the final decision. Please confirm me.

Many thanks to Sri VMRG Suresh, Amarnath, Dr. Giri, Sriram Rahi and Surya Prakash for their help in booking the tickets apart from few others (Vijay, Karthik, Rakesh).

Thank you.

Friends,

We are going by bus.  We got it for a good price. The bus would be with us only during the entire trip. We need not pay for the local conveyance too. If we can manage time well, we can visit Sri Amte's place as well.

It would cost Rs. 1000 per head (approximately - not more than that) for the entire trip. Extra money would be for accommodation and food.

This is a Non A/C Hitech Bus.

Thanks to Dr. Giri who found this Transport people. They are known persons and so we got for this reasonable amount.

Now we can plan well. I will be bringing the DVD of Gandhi movie (of Atenborough).

I have only Digital Camera not Video Camera. If anyone hav e Video Camera please bring it.

My idea is to shoot everyone and record their expectation on the trip. In return journey also we will record each member's experience and feelings. We can shoot the visit as well.

Dear all,

One catch here is that it will cost us a fixed amount (~ 35k-37k)  regardless of the number of people. So, if there are any dropouts later, it will increase the per head cost.

Unless I hear any reservation / objection about this by Monday morning, I am going to go ahead and confirm it. If, in the meanwhile, the travel guy puts presssue on me to confirm, I will say no and risk losing the deal.

I can get the video camera.

A movie called 'The making of the Mahathma' by Syam Benegal is very good too. If somebody can get a hand on to it, get it.

Rgds,
Giri.

I think we can get the required number of people, wouldn't be a problem. If we start late on Friday night, we can get two to three people more (One Sreenivas confirmed that he can join if we start late).

As this is bus we can have the privilege of accommodating late confirmations too.

Many friends whom I spoke to are very interested but only are tied up with one or other work. So by the time we join we can definitely get a 40 number, if not more.

Two members from Nellore are interested. We can ask Srinivas and Suresh of Sarvodaya Mandal to come with us. Meanwhile I will ask for the exact amount for accommodation and food so that we can give a near correct figure.

Friends,

Thank you all for the support and making this happen. We are going on
a wonderful trip and come up with your views on how we can make it
more special and memorable.

We got a 40 seater bus and 39 confirmed and among them three are
doubtful. Mr. Srinivas and Mr. Suresh of Sarvodaya Mandal (who will be
our guides) also wanted to join us and come along with us in our bus.
If they two come, we will be 41.

I think we cannot accommodate any more requests. If you observe, the
strength of women is almost equal to men (more than 33%).

Coming to expenses, it would be Rs. 500 for both accommodation and
food for two days. So tentatively our expenses for this trip would be
Rs. 1500 to Rs. 1600 per head.

We will be starting by 9 pm from Hyderabad. It would be good if we reach there in the morning hours so that we can cover the places.

Mr. Srinivas and Mr. Suresh (our guides) will be coming with us.

If all the participants let us know their place of stay we can arrange the bus near to most of us.

Also there are likely to be 2 to 4 dropouts. You can invite your friends to join the trip.

I di dnot get info on who lives where. So, I am assuming that we will do something like:

Hitec City thru' Jubilee Hills thru' Begumpet  thru' Secunderabad thru' highway

OR

KPHB thru' SR Nagar thru' Begumpet thru' Sec'bad thru' highway
Please let me know your choice and I will fix it up and publish to all.

Prashanthi, I am assuming that this message reaches everybody. There may be two drop-outs from my list (I will know that only tomorrow because my sister-in-law is sick with fever.). If there are any people waiting for a seat, they can proactively drop out and acommmodate others. And, I am assuming there are no more drop-outs. Last minute drop-outs will increase the cost per head.

So, please proactively confirm your participation in the trip by letting me know which one of the above two routes you prefer.

Rgds,
Giri.

Hi Prasanthi,

It is advisable to make a small check list for all to help a safe and cool trip. Pls advise all to bring small luggage with small bags. I feel it is better to bring one blanket with everybody as the weather is not good. Better to take dinner before one hour to our bus catching time.  Also I recommend First Aid box and a Flask filled with Tea (atleast for me, you know I am a Teadrinker (tea taagubotu).

Prashanthi / others , did I miss out anybody? We need confirmations from everybody else to remove any doubt from our minds. Also, please confirm the headcount against your name.

Given the current confirmations, we will try fix the following route:

Kondapur to Miyapur to KPHB to SR Nagar to Begumpet to Sec'bad Paradise circle to Highway.

Prashanthi, can you pass all the phone numbers to me? can somebody like Ravishankar share the responsibility of coordinating with everybody to let them know where and when to board?

Thanks,
Giri.

These 21 are confirmations for boarding point. I am not sure if we were to read it as others are doubtful for the trip itself. I thought everybody confirmed by not expressing any reservation against the bus trip before Monday this week. If that is NOT the case, I think we need to cancel the trip because I will be the biggest hit if cost per head goes up drastically. And, it's a big trouble for Mr.Prasad (Sarvodaya) becaue he might have made the arrangements for stay and food etc. So, please please confirm in the next hour or so without which I may have to cancel the bus.

Rgds,
Giri.

Friends,

Some of you mailed me that there are so many mails with respect to this topic. Please bear one more day.

When we organize a trip and when most of the members are participating we thought it would be good if we post to the group directly as others also can know the updates and they can refer their friends/colleagues.

I request...... please bear one more day and we will not get any mails reg. this trip.

Thanks for your patience and co-operation.

Can you please confirm the boarding points for yourself, Sriram Rahi and Prakash?

I guess your sister, Sireesha will be boarding at point no.2 (Miyapur), right?

Rgds,
Giri.
