As per the plan we were supposed to donate 500 kgs of rice at 22/kg and grocery worth Rs 1000. Unfortunately, the last minute report received on the quality of rice being sold by the rice mill dealer did not allow us to purchase rice from him. The news is that PDS [public distribution system] rice is mixed with normal rice at rice mills and is sold for the same price. We couldn't compromise on the quality of rice and had to seek the caretaker Vinay's help. We had to approach a trusted dealer from whom Vinay purchases rice every month. After negotiating for some time he agreed to sell rice [Hamsa] at 2375 per quintal. Under the circumstances, this was the best we could get and had to go with it.
500 kgs of rice is delivered to New Life Children Home [Run by TOUCH] on September 1st, 2012 by SAHASRA.
We spent good time in the orphanage with all the kids. Some questions were posed to them at that point in time and the winners were given the stationery items. We encountered some brilliant kids who are up to date with current affairs like the captain of Indian U-19 cricket team. Pens, Pencils, Erasers, Gum tubes, Sharpeners, Multiplication Table books were given to the winners. Eventually, all the kids got their share. We explained them the importance of English in this modern age. The one who shall speak in English was to be awarded the ENGLISH-ENGLISH-TELUGU dictionary. A class nine girl stood up and started speaking about herself. This was heart touching as the girl went emotional telling about the demise of her parents when she was in class three and since then she has nobody to take care of her. Wished that the dictionary did not have the real meaning of word ORPHAN and handed over it her with least delay. This could be described as the best of this event.
The caretaker Mr. Vinay expressed his gratitude and said that he owes a lot to this foundation for helping the orphanage.
