Hi All,

How many are open to making a visit to Bapu Ghat tomorrow in the afternoon? We should plan to be there by 3 PM. It closes around 5 PM, so that gives us around 2 hours.

If even 5-6 people are keen, we will go ahead. So please respond at the earnest.

Thank you

Hi Dikshit,

This is a follow up to the visit some of the members have made to Sevagram at the end of August. There have been continued discussions and meetings on taking this forward and implement some ideas that maybe useful to the society. Some members have shown interest in this and hence we have been planning a visit.

Unfortunately this could not happen on the 4th due to last minute communication. We will replan for the 11th (saturday). It is not necessary you should have made the trip to Sevagram. Anyone who is interested in Gandhiji's principles and believes something good can come to the society as a result is welcome. All you need is an interest in something new.

I will send an update on this visit soon. Hope you can join us.

Thank you

Hi Sriram and others,

We are planning for the trip to Bapu Ghat this Saturday. Hope this is sufficient notice for all those who are interested to plan and be prepared accordingly.

The visit will be on Saturday afternoon, somewhere between 2 and 5 PM (to be there). I will confirm the exact times shortly after speaking to the coordinator.

Please reply to me and Prashanthi and confirm if you would be joining the trip. Request not to send to the entire group to avoid too much traffic.

Look forward to a good participation in this visit.

Cheers

It's time, we make our hearts "BAPU Ghats".
We can use all these hours spent on GHATS, meeting the Beneficiaries, poor people in whose hearts where exactly the BAPUs and Ambedkar's live.

This is the true joy of life.
The being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a
mighty one. The being a force of nature instead of a feverish and
selfish clod of ailments and grieving senses complaining that the world
will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my
life belongs to the whole community and that as long as I live it is my
privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up
when I die. For the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life
for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of
splendid torch which I have got to hold up for the moment, and I want
to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future
generations.

Friends,

This would be the last e-mail regarding the visit to Bapu Ghat this Saturday. This is to clear any questions about the visit and why we are using Gandhiji's name frequently in the recent mails.

We will visit Bapu Ghat, Langar House on 11th of October, Saturday from 2 pm to 5 pm.

So far, seven of us confirmed.

1. Dr. Vasant Bawa

2. Purnachandar Rao

3. Suresh Adina

4. Prasanthi

5. Sriram Rahi

6. Fayaz Basha

7. Sivanand Parupalli

Expectation:

There is not much of an expectation from this visit. If you follow the recent mails, you would have noticed that members of BosF forum visited Wardha and some of us visited Pinakini Ashram in Pallepadu.

There has been a very good effort to develop Bapu Ghat in Langarhouse like Sevagram in Wardha and also to establish a communication channel between the people who follow Gandhi ideals. Many eminent people discussed and opined that Gandhi's thoughts are applicable even in this twenty first century. They are interested to put them in practise and prove the fact to the World and there by bring a much needed transformation in the way we live. Simply put, to campaign for - Simple Living, High Thinking at individual level, Decentralization of Power and Empowering Villages at political/administration level.

Ideas:

Dr. Vasant Bawa is interested to revive the Ghat and he has so many ideas to keep it vibrant and lively all the time with the activities Gandhiji wished in his life time.

Some of them are:

1. A Photo Exhibition on Gandhi's Life

2. A garden

3. Watershed (Rain Water Harvesting)

4. Teaching livelihood skills to women

5. Regular Bhajans

6. Giving the meeting halls for sessions organized by social work groups

If anyone of you are interested, please be there in the Bapu Ghat by 2 pm. If you want to confirm your participation, you can either mail to Suresh Adina (asuresh18 AT gmail.com) or to me (prasanthi.uppalapati AT gmail.com).

NOTE TO ALL OF US:

THERE IS NO COMPULSION WHATSOEVER TO VISIT BAPU GHAT OR FOR THAT MATTER TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY EVENT THAT WE MAIL. THIS FORUM IS ALWAYS FOR YOUR INFORMATION. BASED ON YOUR INTEREST AND TIME CONSTRAINTS YOU CAN PARTICIPATE AND SHARE THE NEWS.

PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO RUB YOUR IDEAS OR INFLUENCE THE GROUP. EVERYONE OF US HERE ARE MATURED ENOUGH AND CAN TAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS.

--
Thank you.

with regards,
PRASANTHI.

Summary of the Bapu Ghat Visit:

Dr. Bawa, Suresh Adina, Prasanthi, Sriram Rahi, Sivanand, Fayaz, Suryaprakash, Peddiraju and Amarnath visited Bapu Ghat on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Krishna who looks after the Bapu Ghat and Mr. Janardhan who is the Person In Charge of Bapu Ghat were present there.

Bapu Ghat comprises of 68 acres of land. Bapuji's ashes were kept here on Feb 12, 1948. Now there is a big auditorium, Library Hall and Reading Room. We saw the entire place. Very few personnel are employed there. Though there is a Library Hall and Reading Room no books were placed. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm and as of now, Baba Ramdev's followers come in the morning to teach Yoga to students.

Mr. Janardhan who is the Person In-Charge of Bapu Ghat (He is posted at Taramati Baradari and Bapu Ghat caretaking is the Additional Charge) told to us that as this is not a Commercial Venture, there are no serious efforts from the Govt. to take this forward. Nevertheless the Officials are considerate to support any initiatives. He suggested that if we form a Committee and submit our ideas as request for proposals to the Tourism Department, they will be approved and also we can request funds from Tourism Department and Department of Culture.

Suresh Adina, Sriram Rahi, Suryaprakash, Sivanand Parupalli and Prasanthi want to put their efforts on this work in the guidance of Dr. Bawa, Sri Purnachandar Rao and Sri Prasad. Peddiraju, Amarnath, Fayaz and Sundeep will help as and when required.

The idea is to put the 68 acres of Bapu Ghat land to good use - in line of Sevagram, Wardha, wherever possible.

Already mentioned/mailed suggestions:

1. Library - Books, Audio and Video Library with a Computer Facility

2. Documentation Support - For Researchers

3. Museum - Should be different but not like other Museums on Gandhiji. This Museum discusses and showcases Gandhiji with respect to AP (how many times he visited AP and to what places, what he did here and who were his followers and what they achieved, what is the status now etc.,)

4. Training Programmes - Training Programmes for Youth and Women

5. Conducting Regular Programmes - Learning Sessions/Seminars on Gandhiji by the people who are well versed in Gandhiji.

Following are the new thoughts:

1. Use some acres of land for Organic Farming

2. Water Conservation Methods to be used - Rainwater Harvesting and also to dig an artificial tank to store water to be used for Farming

3. Set up a Go Ras Bhandar

4. Construct simple huts for the people who wish to study Gandhiji and other people working on the principles of Gandhiji directly or indirectly.

Action Items:

1. Sri Purnachandar Rao will be visiting Tourism Dept. Officials some time next month and one of the interested members will accompany him for the discussion.

2. Meanwhile all of us discuss on how we can take these efforts forward (Prasad garu is well ahead of his schedule and he came back to Hyderabad today. He will be here till 16th and also will be available on 19th and 21st. 22nd evening he is leaving for US.

3. To collect the documents so far about Bapu Ghat and keep the copies for reference in the Bapu Ghat itself.

4. To request the Tourism Department to employ more personnel here to take care of the work.

We need more volunteers for this task. Interested members can contact Suresh Adina (98493-64539) and Sriram Rahi(99490-18748) for more information.

FYI - Some of us are going to visit Gautami Ashram in Seetanagaram, Rajahmundry this weekend. This is also an Ashram where they follow the principles of Gandhiji.

Friends,

We created a google group, Gandhi n Development, to discuss our
activities related to Gandhiji.

http://groups.google.co.in/group/gandhi-n-development

This is not very active as of now as we are discussing through gmail
only.

1. Reviving Bapu Ghat
2. Making it a center for all Gandhi Ashrams in AP and also
collaborate with Ashrams in India and Abroad.
3. Publicize about Gandhi Ashrams in AP and see to that they get good
support.
4. Discuss about Gandhiji's ideology and its relevance in 21st
Century.

We will make the group active after a meet on 2nd of November. Venue
is VMRG Media House and timings are 10 am to 12 noon. Yesterday there
was a meeting on the same topic and MOM will be shared soon. (You can
see these mails till second week of November. After that we will not
post any update here).

For your information, there is Gautami Satyagraha Asramam in
Seetanagaram, a place at a distance of 50 km from Rajahmundry. This is
a must visit place. It is so serene and one does not feel like coming
back. Gandhi and Ba visited that Ashram 3 times and the hut is still
there. Gandhiji planted a tree here. (will post more details about
this Ashram soon). There are many photographs of the visits by
National Leaders to this place. Charkha used by Gandhiji is well
maintained. Whether you like Gandhiji or not, if possible, please
visit the Ashram once. You will cherish the experience.

Thank you.

with regards,
Prasanthi.
