Context:

Today's traditional school education system frequently fails to meet children's individual needs. Private schools, or “parent-centred schools," prioritize the desires and concerns of parents over the needs of students. Meanwhile, government schools, or "administration-centred schools," prioritise meeting the needs of the education department or administration. 

Parent-centred schools are primarily concerned with ensuring that their students progress to the next grade level each year and achieve high grades on standardised tests and competitive exams while ignoring subject mastery. Their success is primarily measured by their students' exam results. 

Administration-centred schools, on the other hand, prioritise curriculum completion, maintaining a certain number of teachers, and providing basic infrastructure such as blackboards, benches, textbooks, and toilets. These schools aren't held accountable for their students' learning outcomes or dropout rates.   

Child-centred schools respect and reflect the needs, interests, and views of children. They help a child learn how to learn and how to think. They preserve the innate curiosity in children to question and provoke thoughts. This approach helps them to develop their physical, mental, cognitive, and emotional abilities, to become well-rounded individuals.  

Bharatiya Vidya Utsav 2023 The Bharatiya Vidya Utsav 2023, aims to bring together a curated group of alternative and progressive educators, home-schooling parents, entrepreneurs, innovators, and determined policymakers to share, learn, and co-create solutions for better outcomes for children.

Corona has accelerated debates on a lot of key issues - healthcare, food, water and more importantly education. The National Education Policy (NEP) rolled out in 2020 by the GOI gives a clear mandate on the education reforms that need to be undertaken. However little is being done.

There are many organizations and individuals that have been trying to tackle this problem and the Bharatiya Vidya Utsav hopes to unify these diverse voices and give them a platform to achieve a common goal.

Creating holistic, confident and capable human leaders and NOT those who are merely following a trodden path
Students and alumni of schools, proudly giving back to the institution and NOT being emotionally cut-off with no affinity
