TMAD(To Make a Difference) has been conducting blood donation camps every 3-4 months at Rotary ttk Blood Bank, Thippasandra, Bangalore for the past 6 years with donor’s support. Rotory ttk Blood Bank is providing free blood to Thalassemia patients and for the poor needy referred by us.

Blood Donation Facts
What are the reasons to donate Blood?
Blood is always needed for
· Accident victims, surgery patients, Pre mature and pre term babies
· Thalassemia patients who needs blood transfusion every month life long
Who can donate?
· Age:18 - 60 years
· Weight : > 45 kgs
· Hemoglobin level:>12 gm/dl for men and 12.5 gm/dl for women
· Donors who donated 3 months (90 days) back
Who can’t donate?
· If you are suffering from health disorders like Abnormal Bleeding, Heart, Kidney, Liver, Thyroid, Asthma, Cancer, Diabetics, uncontrolled high Blood Pressure
· If consumed Alcohol in the previous 24 hours
· Female donors during pregnancy, after delivery for one year and during menstrual period and for 7 days there after
What are the precautions to be taken before donating blood?
· Donor must have had good rest/sleep last night and had meal
What are the post donation precautions to be taken by the donor?
· Drink lots of fluids for next 24 hours
· Avoid smoking for one hour & alcohol till after a meal
· Don’t use elevator to go up immediately after donation as it will make blood rush to your feet & make you dizzy!
· Avoid highly strenuous exercises & games for a day
· If you feel dizzy, lie down & put your feet up. You will be alright in 10-20 mins.
· Remove band-aid after 4 hours.
What are the tests need to be done by blood bank after blood taken?
· HIV, Hepatitis B/C, Malaria etc.
What are the benefits to donor of blood donation?
· Regular donation (2-3 times in a year) lowers Cholesterol and decrease incidence of heart attacks
· Donor is also eligible to receive one FREE unit of blood if needed for self/family/friends
