If I want to move to Prism Launcher now, I would have to redownload everything again from scratch (more than 5-7 gigabytes of small files when my Internet is slow) , configure different JRE versions for different versions of Minecraft, set all my controls for each and every version again, add my server lists again, copy over (compatible) worlds to every instance, copy texture packs and set it and change (mostly video) settings in every version for the most performance. I'm willing to make the time investment to change the settings, controls and copy the other stuff like texture packs and worlds but it's the redownloading part that takes too long. I wouldn't even mind it if I can actually do it BUT some versions literally won't even download, like old Vanilla Minecraft versions and Beta versions which I still occasionally play on for some worlds and servers. I also looked into the PrismLauncher folder in AppData and it has a folder named instances where everything is stored. But I would have to individually copy every single thing there as every instance has its own .minecraft folder.

This also worked for me. Just as a heads up, this was caused due to the fact I did not have a locale setup. I followed the steps on the Arch wiki page for Locale and I can now use minecraft-launcher normally, without prepending LC_ALL=C.

There is no sound ingame (worlds and menus are silent) on any minecraft version. I'm using pipewire. All other multimedia works fine (playing music, videos etc). Have anyone encountered something like this before with this launcher?

@Jackleson The system's keychain aka. "OS level password manager" is used to securely store your session keys and is normally unlocked when you login to your computer. The launcher uses it on all systems, including GNOME/MATE, macOS and Windows, and so do all modern web browsers.

bryiewes,Yeah I figured out that it was a Manjaro issue, but now it simply will not install now since it leaves bad config or something behind. Manjaro just randomly over complicates the user experience and not because it is hard to understand just that nobody asked for that particular interaction. KDE Wallet is just badly introduced to the user. 90% of folks don't expect an OS level password manager to just shove itself into how they normally interact with a computer. worse its broken anyway. besides asking "why the fuck did it show up when i am literally just installing minecraft" it errors out when you select any option.

What do you mean by key nonsense. Also, manjaro has it's own issues that cause further issues. Don't try to bring the topic of "it's not required on windows" onto this site, windows and arch Linux are drastically different. My suggestions for your problem are to a. Use regular arch b. Use prism launcher (multimc was great, this is better, and polymc can't be trusted.) c. Don't play minecraft.

I am making a program in Java that involves me starting up the Minecraft launcher through the program itself. I've seen a way to do this using ProcessBuilders and stuff like that. However, I do not want the launcher to run to the default minecraft folder directory (minecraft on mac, .minecraft on windows). Is there a way that I can run the launcher through my program with the files set towards a different directory?

I have been playing minecraft for a long time on ubuntu but I have always used the old 'java' launcher.Since there is a new launcher I would like to update minecraft to that. I have searched the internet but can't update it whatever I do even reinstalling the game won't fix it.Can anyone help me?

Obviously, you have seen more than one launcher for the game but surely found a lot of shortcomings and flaws in them, so you are here to get the maximum emotions from Minecraft because of the huge amount of content and features provided by us. We are one step ahead of many and will always be because the development of TLauncher does not cease even for one day!

I noticed that every time I click PLAY it immediately closes the launcher and opens Minecraft. This really bothers me because I want to keep it open so I could see the Minecraft logs while I'm playing. Is there anyway I could do so without the launcher being open or is there a way to keep the launcher itself open?

Minecraft has recently moved to a new launcher. Previously, you'd download an installer .exe from the minecraft.net website, you'd run this installer file, and the Minecraft Launcher will be installed as an application on your Windows 10 machine.

To answer the second question (does the launcher have to come from the MS store?), no, it doesn't, you can just use the older Windows 7/8 version. Simply visit If you don't trust the link, just go to the downloads page, and instead of selecting Windows 10/11, select Windows 7/8. This is what I'd do if I used Windows as my primary OS.

Specially for newcomers venturing into Minecraft, experimenting with the Minecraft Launcher could be highly beneficial.

ExtremeLauncher is a freely available unofficial Minecraft launcher governed by the MIT license. It has been specifically developed to provide a swift and lightweight alternative to slower launchers in the market. Both offline-mode and online-mode functionalities are supported, although online-mode can only be utilized with a Microsoft account that has been previously migrated. ExtremeLauncher accommodates all Minecraft versions, requiring the appropriate installation of the corresponding Java version on your computer.

MultiMC is an alternative launcher for Minecraft. It allows you to have multiple, cleanly separated instances of Minecraft (each with their own mods, resource packs, saves, etc) and helps you manage them and their associated options with a simple and powerful interface.

MultiMC is based on the code hosted on GitHub. The source is only provided for the purpose of collaboration. The changes in the binary distribution compared to code are the inclusion of branding and API keys required for the launcher to function, along with packaging-related adjustments.

Minecraft can be installed using any number of available launchers. While some launchers can be compiled from source, it is recommended to install the package using Portage as this ensures the correct Java builds are installed and maintained on the system.

The official launcher is linked to glibc and is therefore unusable. Prism Launcher can be compiled and run, but it uses the LWJGL binaries provided by Mojang, which are also linked to glibc, making Minecraft non-launchable. As a solution, it is possible to install and run Prism Launcher using Flatpak:

The Minecraft Launcher is the game downloader and launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition and one of the game downloaders and launchers for Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock Edition), Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends. It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, but Minecraft for Windows and Minecraft Legends can be played only on Windows 10 & 11, and Minecraft Dungeons only on Windows 7 or later.

The main "Play" section allows the user to download (if needed) and launch Minecraft: Java Edition with the "Play" button, and also includes an installation selection on the left (which sorts installations by last played), the user's Java Edition username on the right, and a list of the latest news for the game from minecraft.net below.

In the "Installations" section, custom installations can be created and edited. There are buttons to sort and search installations, as well as checkboxes to enable installations with "Releases", "Snapshot", and "Modded" versions of the game. Installations are stored in launcher_profiles.json (or launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json when using the new Minecraft Launcher for Windows) in the game's directory (.minecraft).
