Birding Kingsport - September Update

Emmy James presented a great educational program for our August meeting. Thirty people attended. The meeting minutes are attached.

 

Twenty-one folks were treated to an awesome hummingbird banding experience at Seven Islands State Birding Park the morning of September 2. We saw 16 being banded for the first time and had 3 recaptures in under two hours. Six-year old Sarah’s excitement as she held and released the first banded hummingbird made the trip worthwhile!

 

REMINDERS: Upcoming field trip to Rankin Bottoms on September 7. WPSP bird walk for BK members on September 13 with invitations sent to Fun Fest bird walk participants.

Our next monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, September 23 at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church located at 584 Lebanon Road in Colonial Heights. The program is “A Birding Adventure to the Canary Islands and Morocco” by Ron Hoff and Dolly Ann Myers. Dinner and social will be at Riverfront Seafood at 4:45 p.m. Please RSVP to Betty by 9/21 so a table reservation can be made.

 

The TOS Fall Meeting will be held on September 26-28 in Johnson City.  The registration form is in the latest edition of The Tennessee Warbler.

 

There will be no regularly scheduled monthly meetings in November and December since they would fall on the holiday weeks.  However, mark your calendars for two dates in December – our Christmas social on December 13 in the fellowship hall from 3:00-4:30 p.m. and the Christmas Bird Count on December 18. More to follow on those.
