to Birding Kingsport

On September 7, we had a field trip to Rankin Bottoms. Seven folks enjoyed a delightful, sunny afternoon scoping shorebirds. Scopes were required as most species were across from the tipple area. We tallied 28 species, and due to the distance, we were unable to make positive identifications on several other shorebird species. Thanks to Susan and Mike Hubley for planning the outing.

On September 13, we had a bird walk at Warriors Path State Park organized by Susan Hubley. Twenty folks enjoyed birding on a gorgeous morning. We had 36 species including some warblers.

The 2nd Annual Salty Bird Festival takes place October 3-5 in Saltville, Virginia. Attached is the flyer/schedule.

There are two requests from Chris Welsh, TOS President:

(1)  Theresa Graham would like to pass the “The Tennessee Warbler” newsletter on to a new editor. Let me know if you want to volunteer.

(2)  The TOS Vice-president for East Tennessee position is currently vacant. It is not a position that requires a lot of time or effort. The VP checks in with each of our east TN chapters before the fall and spring meetings each year and then provides a brief (one or two paragraph) report at the business meeting. The report appears in the meeting minutes, which are published in the Migrant. Let me know if you’d like to serve in this role.
