Birding Kingsport - January Update

Twenty-eight folks attended our Christmas social the afternoon of December 13. It was a great, relaxed event. The minutes are attached. We participated in Audubon’s 126^th Annual Christmas Bird Count on December 18. We had 12 teams counting birds on a decent weather day. Thanks to everyone who helped! Helen is doing the compilation.

 

Our next monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church located at 584 Lebanon Road in Colonial Heights. The program is “Winter Hummingbirds” by Mark Armstrong of East Tennessee Avian Research. He’ll talk about the species he has banded and the Motus station (an automated radio-telemetry receiver used to track the movement of migratory wildlife). Dinner and social will be at Raffaele’s at 5:00 p.m. Please RSVP to Betty by 1/26 so we can request tables put together when we arrive.

 

REMINDERS:

Birding Kingsport TOS dues will be taken up at the January meeting or you can mail a check to Ken Hendrix, 1016 Oldham Ct., Kingsport, TN 37660. Remember to include any changes for the membership roster – email, phone, and home address.

 

Dues schedule for 2026 (no increases) are:

Individual - $28

Family - $32

Sustaining - $40

Associate - $10 (paying TOS membership through another chapter)

Student (K-12) - $10

 

Wilderness Wildlife Week (free programs) is happening now - January 5-8 in Pigeon Forge.

Roan Mountain’s Winter Naturalists Rally will be on Saturday, February 21.

 

Remember to mark your calendar for Saturday, April 18. We will participate in Warriors Path State Park’s 47^th Annual Spring Nature Festival. The program by Bill Grigsby will be at 7:30 a.m. followed by a bird walk at 8:00 a.m. The flyer is attached.

 

Birding Kingsport will host the Spring TOS Meeting on May 1-3. Attached is the registration form. We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to join us.
