Perhaps this bird is behaving like the "Penrice Hudwit" - in the sense
that it may be establishing an alternate migration pattern. How often
do these "repeat" migrant end up leading some "buddies" to an
alternative location?

Probably neither the Hudwit nor the Yellowlegs ever got to see their "buddies" once they showed up here. They probably spent the Northern summer with their Asian counterparts (Marsh or Wood Sandpipers and Bar-tailed or Black-tailed Godwits, respectively) in Siberia and the Northern winter again with their Asian counterparts in Australia. Thus they are following their "normal" migration pattern on the wrong continent(s) and won't be able to lead some buddies down here, except they happen to meet up with another lost one...
