Dear friends,

We hope you have been using eBird to document your bird lists and sightings. In regions where many birders have started to use eBird, the quality and quantity of information on birds has been growing by leaps and bounds.

Several birding and nature groups have started using this platform to run bird documentation and monitoring projects in their areas. If you have started something along these lines, please let us know; we would like to feature your initiative on the Bird Count India website.

The monthly eBirding challenges continue. The challenge for August has just been announced and we look forward to your help in circulating it to your members as well as other birders across the country.

(For those on Facebook, the link to the post is here.)

The purpose of these challenges is for birders keep track of their own sightings while at the same time help document India's birds.

The challenges are run as part of a large consortium of organisations and groups, whose goal is to document the distribution and abundance of Indian birds on a common and open platform.

So far, more than 400,000 observations of Indian birds have been contributed to the eBird platform, and between 20,000 and 30,000 new observations are being uploaded very month.

Anyone can explore this information by viewing summaries for India, examine maps for different species, investigate seasonality, and much more.

Please do forward this message to your birding friends.

Thank you,
Bird Count India
