6 to 30 mg a day is NOT right re check your research, perhaps in the PDR if you're in the states.
Best check with medical provider and get a blood level and adjust from there

Did you want me or jacky, to get some blood work done?

Not to worry furman, I get mine... <laffin> I am scheduled for some
specific blood tests done on Tuesday.

As to the validity of the information that I posted re the daily max
dose specific to anxiety, please click the bic below. Then sit back
and count to 5 or until you get the desired result. That much I know
you can do.

http://tinyurl.com/yjydo6o then hit the next one use patience the
research portion of the net seems slow tonight.

Furman, there are a lot of things to be checked and rechecked on the
net especially if you are talking medicine. You can find sincere,
official and opposed opinions all over the place. One tries to use
common sense and sources recognized for their thoroughness.

From what little this man or woman writes there is a lot left
unanswered. I like it when people write in less than a complete and
truthful manner. It really gives me a lot of enthusiasm to do research
that they should be doing themselves or if disabled in conjunction
with their doctors.

As far as the information that I supplied !!!with disclaimer!!!, the
information on a probably misspelled drug along with an incomplete
list of current drugs combined with several screen nyms
( germishuys ) posted on this and other mental health boards, he or
she is lucky that I took any time at all to reply to this post. My
time is of considerable value. It is worth much more that the large
size of my inflated ego.

As to the blood levels that should be checked, what shall we look for
in the blood furman...old socks? Yes what do you suggest?
Seriously......

Furman do you have a clue as to the % of this drug stays active in
vivo and through which end of the pipe the wasted amount is excreted?
Shall we as well have a liver enzyme and renal test done do to the
lithium diet? Ya think?

Whichever drug it turns out to be it is a benzo. Addiction and abuse
are more the worry. According to the source listed below, up to 60 mg
per day given two equal doses of 30 mg each is well tolerated.
Tolerated by humans or elephants...I dunno, I didn't read that far.
But the literature says 6-30 and up to 60 mg per day....honest.... :P

Please find me some evidence to the contrary so that I may tip my hat
to you. Nothing would please me more than to have you prove me
incompetent.

Or shall we just play with our Black Berrys at the Red Tube Cafe and
Suburu lot?

My private view runs like this..if you are smart enough to turn on a
computer, search for and register with a chat group (google) and then
figure out how to post a question in that group, you ought to be able
to do a little research.

My suggestion to you is to do a little patient, drug, net nym and me
research yourself before you start honking your horn too loudly.
Somebody that actually has a clue might hear you. You know what
furman...I really cannot even tell if you are man or woman or
somewhere in between because all I have ever seen you do is play lets
hold hands and offer tissues to the afflicted.

Tell ya what, you handle this jacky germishuys post from a medical
standpoint. In fact handle the next 5.. "I need med info posts
please". Lets see how you do. Hell, even I should be able to learn
something. Start in about 2 hours as I'm going to check the marbling
on a cow out yonder and cook some of him up em up for supper.... if he
hasn't been playing in my weed garden again.

Oh almost forgot.

I wonder if you skim my longer posts.....nah....you liked that creep
from South Africa... Detroit? Anyhow, this little dity may save you a
little frustration. But remember furman....I had to do the work to
fuck around with you tonight.

Would you have gone to suck lengths to try to help a beeper who writes
an incomplete med question post?

my opinion.

What were you dx'd with?

How do you feel (other than with your hands) depressed, anxious, ?

What other drugs do you take?

Let me know the above and I'll give you my non professional opinion. I
will give you this, Personally, I think Li sux as a treatment for
depression and seems to work okay on some people described as manic.
You are according over the normal daily dose for brazapam...are you
certain that you don't mean to type "bromazapam and the later is a
very addictive drug.

If you take no other drugs other than the Li and Bromazapam, in the
quantities that you specify, it would seem to me that Li is not for
you. If that is the case...you sure that you are not taking any other
drugs...not to worry, there are many other better drugs with little or
no side effects to treat Manic Depression. Let me know what else is on

I take inderal for tremor which in my case is made worse by lithium or divalproex.
Inderal blocks the effect of adrenaline, could create problems if one has asthma or diabetes.

furman, I believe you have developed a stutter!

My answer is "good" furman...ROFLMFAO...

I love boneheads twice as much since I met you furman. Your sloth is
only exceeded by your lack of desire to change. The fact that you are
clueless as to ROFLMAO and then asking me to tell you instead of you
simply looking it up is a testimony to your kind. You really should be
ashamed of yourself.

In other words when you type, get your hand out of your pocket and let
your fingers do the walking through your Black Berry, Betcha that
little buggar can find the answer for you. After all, you made it all
the way here didn't you furman?

Remember my personal take on things, if it is worth knowing, it is
worth finding. Were you really ill and not a smart ass I'd probably
tell you. However, since you are not ill but apparently just lazy, go
press a button. Who knows you may get a clue. It would make the first,
but hey, it is Sunday, miracles are selling at a discount on Sundays.

Hey all,

I just returned from a conference with the FATHER OF ADOLESCENT BIPOLAR, Dr Dimitri Papolos.  Not directly pertaining to adults but to people overall, there is no maximum dose of lithium due to the fact all people can carry and absorb the drug at a different rate.  I currently take 450mg 2x/day and that is on the small side according to my pdoc.  I can't go higher b/c my hands will tremble off of my arms unfortunately.

Children can and do receive doses just as large as adults b/c their systems and organs can utilize the drug more efficiently than adults.  Make sense?  So, bottom line, if your system can handle more (known through blood tests) then you could take a greater dose than most and benefit accordingly.  Lithium is the "Gold standard" for treating BP but most docs are ignorant in this area when it comes to children.

Most of all, whatever route you take...DO NOT STRAY FROM YOUR PRESCRIBED MEDICATION!  That is one of the single biggest problems w/ those of us who are BP!  You will never win or benefit if you don't listen to your pdoc.

God bless all and keep on fighting the good fight!

Hi Michael,

People process lithium in different ways for some idiosyncratic
reasons,
e.g. how well their kidneys work (presumably childrens' are better),
how euthyroid you are, your weight, and how much water and salt,
potassium, you
consume per day. I think when the adverse effects show, then it's a
matter
of mini-max policy. 800mg is a nice dose -- wish I could take that.
My dr.
won't budge from 900mg since initiation 28 yrs. ago. I feel that 800
or even
600 would be a nice experiment for me. But, I'm not a doctor; only on
the net. :-)

Very true...re how we all process lithium and every other drug differently.  Well, last night we started my daughter on lithium, 75mg @ night.  We'll migrate up to 150mg after 4 days and then stay on target until we check her blood again in a month.

I am praying this is what her body needs to allow her to function in a more neurotypical manner...I'll take any and all prayers for my little girl!

Thx all and let's keep on keepin on!

like you- my doctor won't go below 900 mg. (3 X 300 mg.) lithium
daily-I'd prefer 600 but I never met a dr who wanted to go w/ less
than 900.
less than 900 seems risky.

Saying the dose is high is not an absolute statement though, because
many factors intervene resulting in variability with each individual.
For example, not all have the same kidney clearance; not all have
the same thyroid status; not all drink a lot of water every day; not
all have the same brain problem.
So, while for me 900mg is OK, (and I do have to take Synthroid), that
may not be the case for you.

Thanks for the feedback Chris. I find that very comforting actually.
I suppose
going lower may mean getting manic or depressed. On the other hand,
0.8meq/L- 1.2meq/L is acceptable and I am at 1.0 to 1.2 usually-- so
there's
room for experimenting, just to lessens the side effects.
