Better 'diff' for mediawiki?

Anyone who has tried 'collaborative authorship' using MediaWiki will
know that the current diff system is quite painful. There is a push to
create a more usable diff, for example here:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Visual_Diff

Although apparently now obsolete, I think at some point this will form
part of the Wikimedia Usability Initiative:

http://usability.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Anyone have additional information?
