I guess that makes sense. But still it makes me wonder, if Automattic or AwesomeMotive or Godaddy provide good font libraries, could those brands potentially be added to core as well? Or what about other kinds of assets? Is this a one-off or the beginning of brands introducing their products to WP core? This would at least set a precedent for it.

Modern desktop environments like KDE or Gnome suggest larger font sizes to enhance screen readability. However, Netbeans users might not be willing to waste precious space on views around the source code that matters. Here are some alternatives one might consider.
The Gnome desktop provides nice dialogs to customize GTK+ and Gnome decorations and font sizes. The KDE desktop offers the QT-GTK binding that applies KDE design on GTK/Gnome applications. While simple, this alternative applies to Netbeans and all other application, which might not be your intention.
According to a Netbeans FAQ, one may append the netbeans command line with this parameter: --fontsize . However, this does not affect Netbeans anymore on recent Java VMs, which follow the Gnome theme, regardless of the font size parameter. Neither does it allow one to change the font itself.
The less usual approach defines a Gnome theme solely for the Netbeans IDE and allows to customize every aspect of the GUI, including font and font size. To safe effort, it is possible to reuse an existing theme and override just the font and font size.
This approach relies on a custom-gtkrc file that overrides some aspects from the ClearLooks theme, in particular, the font and font size. This custom-gtkrc file could look as the example that follows:
Not only does this customization reduce the font size to 9, but it also suggest a condensed variation of the font with narrower letters. But condensed variation is available only for some specific fonts.

Algerian is a decorative serif digital font family, originally produced in the early 20th century by British foundry Stephenson, Blake and Co.[1] The design for the typeface is owned by Linotype, while the name 'Algerian' is a trademark of the International Typeface Corporation.
Algerian appears in the Stephenson, Blake & Co. 1907 type specimen book on page 142, with the Algerian font as used today as the small caps lowercase to a more decorative uppercase set of initials. The solid black version of Algerian appears on the same page under the name of Gloria, with a separate shadow layer face available.[citation needed]
In 2017 Hagemann expanded the Algerian font family to 144 styles, introducing new bold, light, outline and open faced weights including italics. This new version was released by Fontmesa under the name of Tavern.
In March 2020 FontMesa releases two more weights in the Algerian font design under the name of Tavern, extra bold and black weights have been created making this a five weight font family with 192 styles.
Also in March 2020 FontMesa released a weathered rough edged version of Algerian under the name Bay Tavern with an alternate version called Bayside Tavern, together they add another 144 font styles to the family.
In December 2023 Michael Hagemann of FontMesa type foundry created a rounded edge version of Algerian, released under the name Algerian Rnd, this greatly expanded the usability of the original design.
