Making History (1996) is the third novel by Stephen Fry. Its plot involves the creation of an alternative historical timeline in which Adolf Hitler never existed. While most of the book is written in standard prose, a couple of chapters are written in the format of a screenplay. The book won the Sidewise Award for Alternate History.
When Michael awakens he is completely disoriented. He soon discovers that he is in the United States, at Princeton University. Everyone he encounters is surprised that he is speaking with an English accent. It takes some time for Michael's memory to return. He realises that his plan was successful, history has changed, and for some reason his parents must have moved to America. Initially he is elated and tells his new friend Steve how happy he is because Steve has never heard of Hitler, Braunau am Inn, or the Nazi Party. Steve corrects Michael and reveals that, while never hearing of Hitler, he is all too aware of the Nazi Party.
Michael begins to discover the history of this new world. It turns out that without Hitler, a new leader emerged, Rudolf Gloder, who was equally ruthless. In fact, Michael and Zuckerman have replaced Hitler with a Nazi leader who was even more charming, patient, and effective, and as committed to the Final Solution as Hitler had been.
In this alternative timeline, the Nazis won a mandate in the Reichstag in 1932 and built up an electronics industry of their own. Unlike Hitler, Gloder proceeded with stealth, ensuring peaceful unification with Austria in 1937. More alarmingly, Gloder's Nazis also had a head start on the research and development of nuclear weapons, which led to the destruction of Moscow and Leningrad, eliminating Joseph Stalin and his Politburo in this alternative 1938. The Greater German Reich annexes Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Poland, and Turkey, and invades the remnants of the former Soviet Union. In 1939, France, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, and the Benelux nations capitulate, although Britain rebels in 1941, leading to the execution of several dissidents, among them the Duke of York (the historical King George VI) and George Orwell. Jews are exiled to a "Jewish Free State" within the former Yugoslavia, where most of this world's Holocaust occurs. The United States develops nuclear weapons in 1941, leading to a Cold War between Nazi Europe and the United States. The latter has never gone to war against the Japanese Empire in the Pacific.
As a result, this United States has become far more socially conservative. Because there was no sixties upsurge of social liberalism and decriminalisation of homosexuality in (Nazi-occupied) Western Europe in this world, in the US the latter is still a felony and racial segregation is still active. Students at Princeton are purely white and the only Black people on campus are manual workers; students feel free to harass them and use slurs.
Steve turns out to be homosexual and in love with Michael, and when he discovers Michael's background, he marvels at his talk of gay pride marches, urban gay communities, and a mass social movement in Michael's world of origin, regarding it as "utopian". Much to his own surprise, Michael reciprocates Steve's feelings.
Time changes again. Expecting the disorientation, Michael comes to his senses faster now and discovers that almost everything is back to how it was, except that his favourite band, Oily-Moily, never existed (one of the band's members was of Austrian extraction). He gives up his career in academia, figuring he can at least make some money "writing" the songs that he remembers from the previous reality. Finally, Michael is reunited with Steve, who is English in this universe and also remembers the previous reality. Their gay relationship is no longer criminal.
Talk to Jorral in the outpost just north-west of West Ardougne. It is directly south of the Tree Gnome Stronghold (One can use a Necklace of passage and teleport to The Outpost). In order to save the outpost from King Lathas, the player will need to talk to Erin the silver merchant, Droalak the ghost, and Dron the warrior. They can be visited in any order, and the player does not need to revisit Jorral until they've met all characters. Before all of this, Jorral takes you into a cutscene.
Note: If the door is open when talking to Jorral, occasionally an aggressive hobgoblin can attack you during the cutscene, which will cancel the dialogue afterwards and force you to watch the cutscene again.
Talk to Erin, the Silver merchant, in East Ardougne. He is at the north-western stall in the central market. He will tell you about his great grandfather, and that he has an enchanted key. Ask him if you can borrow it and he will agree. The key changes temperature as you walk.
Teleport to Castle Wars (ring of dueling or minigames teleport) and cross both of the bridges to the north until you are around 4 steps north from the east side of the second bridge. As soon as you feel that the enchanted key is steaming, take out your spade and dig to find a chest. Use the enchanted key to open it and you will find a Journal.
The enchanted key cannot be used to find additional treasure until this quest is complete. If the player uses the key, they get the message, "You have already found the chest" (if not opened to get the journal yet) or, "You have already found the journal". If the player has already given the journal to Jorral, the message is, "You've already delivered the journal."
Travel to Port Phasmatys; if Ghosts Ahoy has not been completed, you must pay two ecto-tokens to the town guards. (Get ecto-tokens by heading to the Ectofuntus, just north of Port Phasmatys. Use the bones in the bone grinder on the second floor, get a bucket of slime from the trapdoor west of the fountain, and use those items on the fountain. Then, talk to a ghost disciple to claim your ecto-tokens.) The port can also be reached by Charter Ship to Port Phasmatys or use fairy ring ALQ (Note: fairy ring still requires ecto-token).
Once in Port Phasmatys, head to the general store. Then talk-to Droalak in, or around the general store. He will give the player a scroll if they give his wife, Melina, a strung sapphire amulet. Melina is in the building directly east of the general store.
(Note: To make a strung sapphire amulet if you don't already have one, use a gold bar on a furnace while having a cut sapphire and amulet mould in your inventory. Then use a ball of wool on the unstrung sapphire amulet, to get a strung sapphire amulet.)
Go north of Skulgrimen's Battle Gear, and speak to Dron. He can be found close to the northern-most dock. He will quiz the player on the information that Blanin gave them. Dron will ask various questions; these are the answers (in the order used):
After answering the questions, Dron will reveal part of the outpost's history that involves two friends battling each other at the Outpost. One sided with Zamorak, and the other sided with Saradomin. It's later learned that they both decided to stand down after observing the destruction of the battle, and chose to side with Guthix. As time went on, one became King of Ardougne and the other ran the Ardougne marketplace.
Give everything to Jorral. He'll give the player a letter to take to the king of East Ardougne. King Lathas can be found upstairs in his castle in central Ardougne just across the river. He will give back a letter to take to Jorral, in which he promises not to tear down the outpost. After taking it to Jorral, Jorral will make a museum out of the Outpost.

This identification process involves viewing documents and selecting the matching image. For the WWII Project, this process helps to sort the different forms into separate groups for indexing to accurately gather all the information and data.
Transcription involves viewing a digital image of an original document and creating a typed version of all of the text. Capture all of the typos, misspelled words, and errors exactly as they appear in the original document.
Indexing involves viewing a digital image of the original document and entering select information, such as names and dates. Rather than capturing all the text, volunteers must use their judgment to find the correct information within the document.
OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, is a process by which software recognizes the shapes of letters on a newspaper page and translates them into a searchable text file. Help improve the accuracy of OCR text by comparing it against the original historical newspaper and making additions and corrections.
However... it just feels like there are a few "holes" where I wish they'd added a bit more. The 1.875m tanks all have a new look, and the 2.5m tanks got reskinned to match... but the 1.25m tanks still have the old textures and look kind of dingy in comparison. Similarly, the new engines are cool, but they have a very different style from the old stock engines, and the contrast can be a bit jarring-- and I'd love to have some new design options at the 1.25m size. It's great to have 1.875m available as a new stack size... except that other than engines and tanks, it's missing pretty much any other stack components, making it a bit awkward to use as anything other than a radial booster. And the lack of a fueled conical adapter from 2.5m to 3.75m is just aggravating to me.
Anyway, this little mod is my attempt to fill some of those gaps. Would love for this to become obsolete if-and-when they release some "real" parts to address these needs, but until then, I'll make do with this.
