Forthe last sixty years, most magazine articles have been written with the young man in mind. I think you understand what I mean. The authors talk about gaining muscular bodyweight, building big arms, etc.
You may not know it, but the head dinosaur has just past the 50 year mark and is still pushing, pulling and tugging at the heavy black iron. Therefore, he understands the needs of the seasoned trainee. His training methods have had to evolve along with his age. Fortunately, he has put to paper those tried and true training methods that he has found to have really worked for him and will work for those trainees that share some of the same problems that naturally occur with middle age.
The same man who literally knocked the weightlifting world on its ear with the best seller, Dinosaur Training, that has gone into countless editions and has sold world wide for over 16 years!
And in fact, just a few years ago, researchers finally put this to the test in an actual study. It included a dozen men and women of various ages and ethnicities, and the researchers found a pattern of graying and reversal that aligned with periods of stress, which implies that that graying is associated with our mental health and psychological well-being. There are many possible root causes of gray hair. Nutrition, heavy metal exposure, circulation, and stress are the four that you have the most control over. Because stress is such a huge topic in and of itself, and also because it is not a factor I focused on during this time period, I am not including it in this article. But, as mentioned above, there is science to suggest that reducing stress can bring hair color back.
She began pressing around on my scalp we discovered that I had a huge knot on the side with the veins, and by no coincidence, the only side of my head with gray hair. Similarly, when a masseuse presses into a knot in your back and it hurts, when she pressed on one side of my head, it really hurt. She asked me if I get tension headaches, to which I replied no, as I never get headaches. I asked her what caused the knot, and she said overthinking, which definitely resonated, as I can overthink anything into oblivion.
If you do not have a TCM doctor you could test your scalp yourself to see if you have any knots, and work to remove them via daily self massage using your fingertips, ideally 20 minutes a day, but 10 will do.
Interestingly, there is science to show that daily scalp massage (regardless of whether you feel a knot) improves circulation to the scalp, which aids in hair regrowth and increased thickness. So if not for gray, scalp massage is beneficial for hair health in general.
Because metals are stored in the tissue, blood tests are best reserved for testing acute (recent) exposure within the last 2-3 days. Heavy metals generally move from the blood stream into the tissues within 2-3 days, so this is not the best way to determine your longterm exposure to metals and how much is in the tissues.
A hair test shows the metal in the hair over the last several months, but may not be a fully accurate depiction of what it actively going on in the body. For example, in someone who can not detoxify properly, they may only have low levels of metal in the hair, even though there are troublesome levels in the body.
I was low in iodine which was surprising, as I do eat seafood regularly, although not seaweed so much. So, I started eating kelp noodles or kelp or dulse out of the bag daily, or near daily. I was also low in copper, so I ordered a copper water bottle, leave water in over night, and drink that in the morning, once a day.
You can get your vitamin and mineral levels tested through your healthcare provider. Personally, I got mine tested in Dubai at Frieburg Medical Laboratory, which included a comprehensive Vitamin Panel and Mineral Panel.
In the US, when you consult with a Functional MD, Integrative MD/ practitioner, or Naturopathic Doctor, they are more likely to be familiar with these tests and offer more insights on the results, and they should also be able to test for heavy metals, mold, and more.
When she said this, I knew exactly who and what she was talking about. And I immediately wished she would just poke me with some more needles and prevent me from having this very hard and uncomfortable conversation (which I had already played over and over again in my head for years).
I have tried many. I personally think the Madison Reed Crema Gloss is the absolute best. My former hairdresser even recommended it over salon glosses. You can do it yourself. You apply it to dry hair and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. My hair really yellows so I usually leave mine on for longer.
Keristase Blond Absolut Heat Protecting Leave in Treatment I just purchased this one and really like it. It is part of the Blond Absolut line. I think it gives my hair a bit of shine. How to Keep your Gray Hair Looking Great
Cindy? I bought a boatload of purple shampoos and conditioners, but there are so drying! My hair looks like a broom. I hard highlighted my hair for years and decided to let it go natural. . My hair has has a few gray hairs. Your tips are helpful. I will be purchasing the Hair Biology and the Blond Absolut. Will try to find the Madison Reed Crema gloss too.
My hair was a mess when I was coloring it as well. My hair has always been coarse and frizzy my entire life. When I was in high school in the midwest my hair was never cooperative like the other girls.
Cindy, Olaplex has a new purple shampoo, I just read about it and have not tried it. I use Blue Malva conditioner, Joico purple,Klorane whitening and Phytoargent shampoos and a Kenra clarifying shampoo and I rotate between the crema and clear madison reed glosses. I have the best hair of my life, very similar to your color, medium thick. My best accessory, much of the time.
You and your gray hair make the perfect pair. Both are stunningly beautiful! Makes me wish I had thick gray/white hair like yours, but I have horrible mousey brown mixed with dirty gray, thus I continue as a blonde.
I like the malibu packets my hairdresser suggested. You might give them a try. You have an excellent point about curly hair products. I used to be able to naturally dry my hair when it was short. Maybe I will try that again some time! Great points! Thanks for sharing.
You are amazing and your hair is gorgeous! I color my fine, limp, frizzy, thinning hair. At 71, there is not much positive to say for my hair and it makes me sad. I will definitely try some of the recommended products and also try for a better attitude!
