I have few ideas in my mind about our first meeting, and I need your
feedback. Again, everything will be up to the group's decision.
1. Where and when for the first meeting—I hope we can find a
convenient location for all members, somewhere casual, relaxing but
good for a close and interactive conversation. Maybe a location close
to Ranch99 or UCSD.I think we can meet in either Aug 2/3or 9/10,
Saturday or Sunday. Let me know which one you prefer so we all can
meet.
In the first meeting, Let's discuss about the following issues:
2. How often we should hold our regular meetings—I myself prefer
once a quarter, that gives us enough time to get all data we need to
prepare for an informative presentation.
3. Regular Meeting length-2-3 hrs or up to half a day.
4. How meeting runs—here is my 2 cents:
First, we list a bunch of hot technologies, then we dive in and
research and present one technique at one time in our regular meeting
(like a journal club), including that technique's scientific
background (the deeper the better), major companies/manufacturers/
industry players, estimated market revenues, entry barriers/entry
strategies/manpower needed for China market. Etc,the more the better.
Ideally we all take turns for one technology but If the project is too
big for 1 or 2 people, we all should join and take part of it, I will
try to find some online project management website so we can all
upload the information we find and everyone is at the same page.
Then after the presentation we will hold a round-table discussion to
brainstorm whatever we have in our mind, and what action we should
take. No idea is stupid. I hope in the future we can invite some guess
speakers or experienced advisors to guide us too.
Then we will give feed back to the presenter as for what we appreciate
and what he/she needs to improve. I think this is important because it
can help us with our communication and presentation skills, just
imagine one day we will have to give presentations to Venture
Capitalists, and we want we all look the best.
Please reply to everyone for any idea you have and look forward to
seeing you all.
good luck
Jack
