Just a heads-up: Twitter suspended https://twitter.com/biostarquestion , but I don't know the reason. I filed an appeal, let's see how it goes. I'll go on vacation soon, so if Twitter takes a long time then I won't be able to re-connect everything before I leave.

cheers, Michael

Maybe it has something to do with the recent high volume of spam?

Ah, good point. Scrolling down quite a bit I found a cluster of Korean spam. It is a very low fraction of the posts of the last week, but may have triggered some filters. I guess spam gets marked relatively quickly on Biostar, but of course sometimes posting to Twitter will be faster.

Can we implement a delayed feed that removes spam and closed questions?

I wondered what other motive might the spammer have, have not considered twitter but it is definitely a reason to attack.

I will add some delays,

is this working off the RSS feed?

Hi

A long term solution may be to build a spam 'dictionary' and add an attribute to each post as being a spam or not, upon publication, if the system thinks it is potentially a spam it will be 'on hold' intil one of the admins validates the entry, who is notified by an email about it.

Cheers

Rad

PS : Twitter is going across 'robots' accounts, biostars one may look like a robots, not 'humanized' enough, may be a more manual usage of the account will wave that flag on it (liking, sharing and following users)

Yes, I'm using IFTTT to send items from the RSS feed to Twitter. The delay should help.

I'm not sure if the spammers targeted Biostar because of the Twitter link, it might just be indiscriminate spamming wherever there's a form to post stuff.

If anyone from the community wants to do more with the account, like following Biostar users or something like that, I'm happy to hand it over.

I can take over and manage the account - but first let's see what Twitter does. If it suspends the account suspended then I'll have to start a new one.
